Which Smith miniseries? I only remember Guardian Devil which did come out on time even... The Evil that Men Do with Spider-man/Black Cat was late as hell but eventually finished. Daredevil/Bullseye: The Target, from 2002. Only 1 issue ever came out. His last update was on 2005, he said it'd be continuing in 2006. ah... forgot about that one.

Big director writing Marvel miniseries.... *flashback to Kevin Smith's unfinished DD miniseries* *flashback to Jon Favreau's unfinished Iron Man miniseries* *remembering that Marvel laughed off the significance of these things never being finished* ........so if this one gets finished, we credit his son for that. On the other hand Joss Whedon’s Astonishing X-Men run was awesome. It did get delayed a few times from what I can remember though. Whedon single-handedly killed any and all momentum and interest Runaways had as a series back then. It never recovered from his extreme lateness and destroyed one of Marvel's few surprise hits of that era.

.....I was fairly certain that the Agents of Atlas book spinning out of War of Realms was announced as an ongoing series. Whelp, as of #2 in the new solicits it's "of 5" so I guess not. Also Marvel Comics #1001 is going to be a thing, with another giant cast of creators.

Not surprised. Has Vertigo had a hit since Fables ended?
Plus seems like most creators are going to Image to publish series that 10 years ago would have been at Vertigo.

But for me Sandman isn't that great. First 4 or so stories are really good. Then after they go to find Destruction most of the rest of the series feels like Gaiman padding out the series. There is an interview in an old issue of Tripwire. Gaiman said "I have the entire series plotted out. It is ending at issue 50 or close to that. Anymore after that is just not needed." This interview was published around the time Doll's House storyline was halfway done. Not long after that Gaiman signed that new deal with DC that not only gave him some creative control over the Sandman characters he created but also gave him a big percentage of the sales. So in my eyes he watered down the product to get more issues out to make more money. But then I think the best and only comic work that Gaiman has written that holds up is his run on Miracleman.

Oh, well I totally am with you there. The first half is fantastic to me, that's pretty much why it's lower on the list. Same with Fables tbh, thought it was good until about issue 100 or so. Felt it wasn't as strong from there on, maybe even a bit before.

Felt it wasn't as strong from there on, maybe even a bit before. Thank you. Most of the time when I dont praise Sandman to the Heavens I get attacked by online fanboys. ANd I get it for lots of fans Sandman was the first "mature/adult" comic they ever read. And the first half is amazing. I wish I still has the scans of the really badly written erotic fan fiction Gaimen wrote, some got published in some tiny circulation zines, back before he got into comic writing. And I will give Gaiman this Sandman brought lots of non-comic readers into comic shops. I was working at a comic shop when Sandman started. So I got into the series very early on,I think I started with issue 4. By issue 13 we started getting lots of women coming in the shop looking for the series. And it wasn't the normal "I am here waiting on my boyfriend/husband to finish getting his comics" females. These ladies were huge into Sandman. Got a few of them to read stuff like Love and Rockets and Strangers in Paradise. Hell my AP English teacher got into comics thanks to Sandman. She had noticed that as soon as I finished my work I would pull the newest issue of Sandman out of my bag.Toss on my earphones and read until class was over. "Hey that comic you are reading... It doesn't look like the comics I read as a kid." So I explained the premise to her. From then until I graduated a few years later the day I got the new issue in I better bring it to school for Mrs Rimer to read. She loved mythology and that is what hooked her on the comic. When I graduated in May of 92 she started going to the comic shop and buying the issues as they came out. A few years ago she passed. And in her will she told her daughters to try to find me and give me her Sandman collection. She had most of the issues. All the trades and a few of the hardcovers. But hell thanks to the Preacher TV show on AMC I have gotten 2 close friends into comics. Neither of them like to read. But after watching Preacher season 1 they wanted to know how the story went and didn't want to wait for season 2. So over the course of a year they read all my Preacher TPBs.

The entire run is out in trades now. And finding the issues isn't hard or expensive. Hell 6 or 7 years ago I grabbed almost every issue of Animal Man at a con for 10 cents an issue. For me Animal Man is Morrison's best superhero work. Sure he gets a bit preachy with his vegetarian stuff towards the end of his run,but that kinda fits the lead character too.
