"John Cena unexpectedly announced he would be retiring after participating in the Survivor Series main event. He wouldn't stop giggling during the press conference."

John Cena hasn't main evented a PPV since 2014? No, believe it or not 2014 and onward has really been more focused on Reigns, Rollins, Ambrose, HHH, Sheamus for a sad time, among some others like Lesnar for Main Events.
Cena's always on the upper card, but stuff like the US Open Challenge and Injuries have kept Cena out of the Main Event picture for a bit.
That being said, I expect HHH to also have one or two more show headlining matches left in him too especially with the Rollins shit.

For what it's worth, there was that triple threat match with Lesnar and Rollins, but it went on before the Royal Rumble.

Edge main evented a PPV in 1999? Which one? Royal Rumble? Yeah; he was #5 in the Rumble that year and was eliminated by Road Dogg in about 12 minutes.

It's cool, I wouldn't rule out Triple H taking that record back sooner rather than later.
And actually technically Cena would've already had the record anyway since since he hit 67 Taker and Triple H have main-evented a couple PPVs.

"John Cena unexpectedly announced he would be retiring after participating in the Survivor Series main event. He wouldn't stop giggling during the press conference." In all seriousness as Lance Storm would say, I was #69 on my reciept at Burger King today, and my friend made a tasteful humorous barb!

I'm honestly surprised Hogan isn't in the lower top ten. Even though there weren't as many back then, he was usually still the main event at most of them for many years. Looking through PPV histories on Wikipedia, Hogan headlined 24 WWE PPVs, and was in 4 Rumbles. I'd like to see a full list of this ranking, not just the top ten.

Edge main evented a PPV in 1999? Which one? Royal Rumble? My guess would be some kind of TLC match?

I don't think so - Triple H's last one there is 2016 which would be Mania. If Triple H doesn't know about this record, it'll safely (and deservedly) be Cena's. Once Triple H finds out, prepare for some Triple H main events!

HBK main evented across 4 decades. That's a cool bit of trivia.

Kane main eventing 38 times is weird to me.

I don't think Royal Rumble's should count as main eventing unless you get to the final 4 or something.
Otherwise guys like Mantaur have a "main event" under their belt. Dilutes the whole thing.

Would Foley be credited for 3 main events for being all 3 characters in the 1998 Rumble? Just a question somebody would ask, why not me? (Edit: Crap, the Rumble didn't main event that year, nevermind.)

You're not seriously talking about the existence of a wrestling minotaur as a dilution of what constitutes a main event. Do you know the lore surrounding minotaurs? They're main events entirely on their own.
