Jimmy Smith's replacement on commentary for Bellator is...Big John McCarthy?!? Well he's done commentary before and has been quite vocal about wanting to retire from officiating for a while now. And lets be honest Bellator really doesn't have much of a talent pool to chose from when it comes to MMA commentators. Mir is there(though he's an active fighter). I don't know if his work for ACB might effect that either.

Jimmy Smith officially signs with the UFC. I was hoping ed make his debut by hitting Dominick Cruz over the head with a steel folding chair as he droned on about the underhook war for the 10"th time in the broadcast before taking over on commentary, but I'll take him working the UFC 220 desk.

UFC 219 did between 360K and 380K buys.
Which is still good enough for third most last year.

We’re about to have another interim Middleweight Champion. Whittaker is out of 221 and Rockhold will now face Romero for the interim title.

Robert Whittaker has been forced out of the main event of UFC 221 for medical reasons. Yoel Romero will now face Rockhold for the reactivated Interim Middleweight Championship.
EDIT: Right at the same time.
Other news, UFC will go to Russia in September.

Feel bad for Whittaker as this will also prevent him from competing in the Commonwealth Games as well.

Urijah Hall was taken to the hospital after he didn't show up for the weight-ins. His fight with Vitor Belfort is now cancelled.

Also on the same card a fight between Thiago Alves and Zak Cummings has been called off due to Cummings slipping and landing on his head while getting out a bathtub.

He hasn't fought since he lost to Whittaker. Why not Weidman? He's at least coming off a win and that's a rematch people could be interested in.

A rematch could be interesting but Romero/Rockhold is a fresh match up. Right now it’s tough to slot anyone in there. Romero doesn’t really deserve a shot since he should have beat Whittaker handily in that fight but instead held back for the last four rounds.

UFC is hardly above doing rematches where one guy convincingly beat the other. That fight was also 2 years ago so enough time has passed. Plus that was still a close fight until that ill advised kick. I'm very much against giving someone coming off a loss a title shot. Especially Romero who was so outclassed in that fight.

Plus that was still a close fight until that ill advised kick. I'm very much against giving someone coming off a loss a title shot. Especially Romero who was so outclassed in that fight. Not saying I agree with it, just giving you the reasoning. Since GSP won the title only to immediately vacate it, the MW rankings are pretty messy. If Bisping beat Gastelum then Bisping/Rockhold II would have made some sense, but Gastelum ended up KOing him. But you can’t give Gastelum the shot either because outside of the fluke Bisping, his last two fights were a loss to Weidman and a fight he originally won but that got overturned. Plus he’s really just a fat WW. Souza lost to Whittaker in his last fight so that rules him out. Then in the rankings you have GSP but he’s not taking any MW fights and of course is responsible for this whole mess. That’s your top five and beyond until you hit the bottom section of the top 10 rankings in Brunson, Silva, and Branch. None of those guys are going to get that interim title fight for one reason or another. Although an argument could be made for Brunson since he had two first round KOs in his last two fights. Even then this was against aging fighters and no one really wants to see an eighth ranked fighter with minimal name recognition get a shot. So if we’re going to go pure sports here and give the shot to someone based on recent wins and can/wants to take the fight it’s probably Brunson, Weidman, then Gastelum. Solely because there is no one better coming off of a win though.

Belfort vs. Bisping 2 being looked at for the London card. Guess they can retire together!

Unless we’re talking about GSP vacating and Whittaker being unable to compete I don’t know who else was offered.

Jeremy Stephens just went VINTAGE "Little Heathen" on Doo Ho Choi.
And then brought a translator in to say good things about the Korean fans.
Stephens wins the classiness award for the week.

Though Romero is still taking a big risk by agreeing to the fight.
