That's right, it's Monday again and that means ONLY one thing... The 1-0 Philadelphia Eagles travel to Soldier Field for Mond... Wait a sec...
...
In fact it's another episode of Monday Night RAW, live from Memphis. We are only six days away from RAW's first brand-exclusive PPV of the new brand extension, Clash Of Champions, but we already have some developments in terms of in-ring action on the red show tonight.
One scheduled bout will see the #1 Universal Contender Seth Rollins take on United States Champion Rusev in non-title singles competition, as decreed by RAW Commissioner Mick Foley after both men made their presence felt in last week's main event between Universal Champion Kevin Owens and prospective contender Roman Reigns. Rollins's run-in had initially led to Owens winning the match by DQ, only for Foley to restart the bout and keep The Big Dog's hopes alive... But with The Bulgarian Brute's later interference being just enough for Owens to put away Reigns, he is out of the Universal Championship picture for now, and if Rusev's assault on Reigns after the match is any indication, things still aren't settled between those two. It's a rare first-time bout on RAW, and we all know that Owens and Reigns will be interested spectators for this one (even if we aren't at that point).
The other scheduled bout is Match #6 of the Best Of Seven top contender series between Sheamus and Cesaro. The finish line is almost in sight, and it's uncertain who'd be more relieved, those in the ring or those outside of it watching. The Celtic Warrior could take the series tonight as he currently has a 3-2 lead, but as last week proved, Cesaro is willing to bend a few rules to keep it going for one more match. A win here for The Swiss Superman ties things up, and conveniently enough there's a PPV on Sunday where that match could occur.
For the first time since 2007, WWE will have an officially-sanctioned cruiserweight division on its main roster, and it starts again tonight. Already, the man to watch has to be the Cruiserweight Classic tournament winner and new Cruiserweight Champion TJ Perkins, but he ain't coming alone, with CWC runner-up Gran Metalik, quarter-finalists Brian Kendrick, Noam Dar and Rich Swann, and standouts Cedric Alexander and Lince Dorado joining him. Who'll be in action tonight as we begin the new era of cruiserweight wrestling in WWE? Will there be a prospective #1 Contender for Perkins just in time for Indianapolis on Sunday? And most importantly, will a big ugly hoss ruin it all? Talk about pushing your luck, you guys, you seem to have a death wish by constantly bringing that up.
Even though it was established the week before, we have a #1 Contender for Charlotte's WWE RAW Women's Championship, and it's the former champion Sasha Banks. Thought to have been dealing with a long-term injury after her loss at SummerSlam, The Boss returned to action and cemented Top Contender status in a triple threat match over Bayley and Dana Brooke. With only six days until Charlotte and Banks lock up again, can Charlotte keep her composure, especially as her relationship with Brooke continues to disintegrate?
Last week, Sami Zayn found himself in the middle of the Jeri-KO bromance as he was put under the metaphorical microscope by Jericho on The Highlight Reel, before he was beaned with the Paul E. Dangerously Special... A cellphone to the upside of the head. A match has been scheduled for Clash Of Champions, but both could use some last-minute momentum on RAW tonight.
And there'll probably be something with The New Day and Gallows/Anderson, hopefully not anymore of those skits like a couple of weeks ago. Woof... I don't think we're still not over that yet. Just to get to the fighting for the RAW tag belts on Sunday, I say.
All that, and The Shining Stars continue to defy the laws of thermodynamics by being unable to gather heat from dirty wins over Enzo and Big Cass, TONIGHT on RAW!
