Same here.....and the Zero Mostel/Gene Wilder version of Prodcers is the superior version. Disagree there partially, although I haven't actually seen the newer one, but I thought the original Producers was absolutely atrocious. Zero Mostel embodies the kind of joke telling that was big in the 50's and 60's where, instead of working for a laugh or showing chemistry, he just kind of says to the audience "Hey, I'm cool enough that I don't really have to sell this joke, but my presence in this movie means you should laugh, because I have status points". Gene Wilder was good in it, but he was forced to almost be some sort of bizarro straight man to Mostel, which completely goes against what Wilder is good for. It's like Anger Management. Jack Nicholson and Adam Sandler. It's a comedy, and one of the actors has been in some of the funniest (albeit usually shallow) comedies of the last 10 years, and the other actor is an intense fellow who's been in action movies, suspense and dramas. So, who do you make the focal point of the comedy, and who is the straight man? Well, someone thought it would be a great idea to have all the jokes go through Jack instead of Sandler, and while Jack's funny in small doses, he really is kind of a one-trick pony when it comes to comedy. And Sandler's just kind of left sitting there, having to be the somewhat regular guy throughout most of the movie. It just pissed me off in the original Producers how Wilder was wasted while Mostel stunk up the screen with his lameass Bob Hope bullcrap. I disagree with your disagreement. Since when has Zero Mostel (or for that manner anybody like Zero) ever been "cool", he's just an old time comedian that's a throwback to the Borscht belt and vaudville. The man can be dramatic and comedic.....I'm sorry but anyone that could be funny during the HUAC and McCarthy Hearings era has not only good comdeic chops but huge f'n brass balls. Gene Wilder was also used well in the movie and to say he was "forced" into the straight role is ignoring the man's skills. the guy can be just as dramatic and heartwrenching as any classically trained actor AND be funny (see Frisco Kid, he's awesome in that, plus he's done alot of serious work post Brooks). As for your Anger Management analogy I don't see the connection as I didn't like AM but it wasn't because of the actors so much as it just wasn't that well written or funny, as opposed to Billy Madison or Mars Attacks!...

That's not sad, dude. I know about 25 movies I can recite word for word. Including Spaceballs. That is sad. Interesting. Could you name a few? All the original Star Wars movies All the Rocky movies All the Indiana Jones movies All the Back to the Future movies All the Superman movies (except Returns) Batman (1989) Masters of the Universe (yeah, I know. That is extra sad) The Godfather (just part I. II has too much italian) E.T. First Blood Splash National Lampoons Vacation The Karate Kid I and II Ghostbusters That's actually 28 (29 when including Spaceballs), and I could still keep going. I have over 700 DVD's and had thousands upon thousands of VHS. I didn't get out much when I was a kid. It's still a struggle these days. You might say that I'm a tad obsessed

Of course he did. He was a comedian from the 50s and 60s. Plus, the movie came out in 1968.
I haven't seen the new version yet, but I LOVE the original.
Gene Wilder>everything except Madeline Kahn who truly>everything.

? This is a bad joke, right? Meh, Speed was okay. Speed 2 on the other hand.... Speed ate donkey dong. And Point Blank was like having nails pounded into your eyes. The combined void of talent that is Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves is more than anyone should be exposed to. Especially when it's garnished with the horrible vocalisation of Lori Petty.

There were a lot of funny parts in Spaceballs. It ran a little long, but the same can be said of any Mel Brooks film I've ever seen.

For the person complaining about Zero Mostel, that's just who he was. He was a very loud, outspoken and obnoxious comedic actor. They purposely did not cast him in the Fiddler on the Roof movie because of it, although it's probably his most famous stage role. However, I can see how people can be turned off to just how brash he is. But he was 100x better in that role than Nathan Lane was (and I love nathan lane, so that's saying something.
The one thing I liked about the musical version is that the story seems more complete and the jokes are better paced. Plus there's the great line about the name of his show thats not in the original
"Cash....that's an odd name for a show"
"So's The Iceman Cometh, now go!"
