I really liked Henrique and Adam Larsson: two members of the 2012 Devils Eastern Conference title team, talented players, and Henrique in particular was a fixture in the community in north Jersey and took a leadership role during some lean years.
That said, a number of reporters have been tweeting that when you add it all up, over the past couple of seasons Ray Shero has traded Henrique, Larsson, Joe Blandisi (who's got some legit potential), two second rounders and two third rounders, and in return has brought the team Taylor Hall, Kyle Palmieri, Marcus Johansson, and Sami Vatanen, along with a few swapped draft picks. Combined with rookies like Butcher, Bratt, and Nico, suddenly this is a legit team.
Shero managed to add a number of frontline players without having to pay for big free agent contracts and without mortgaging a rebuilding franchise's future.
Praise Based Shero.

Yeah, seems like a really good trade for both teams. Imagine that.

With 2 empty-net goals last night, Michael Grabner now has 6 of them in total. He's only 4 away from taking the season record from Pavel Bure.

Man, it's a good thing Calgary isn't playing tonight, I might be really annoyed with them.

The NHL has agreed and accepted to consider a Seattle expansion. The fee for the expansion will be $650m. For comparison, the fee for Vegas was $500m.

The Coyotes should just cut their losses and move to Houston or Seattle. Again, Arizona is Bettman's hill he chose to die on. Speaking of which NHL is apparently looking at Houston to expand in. I am guessing Arizona will be relocated to Seattle at some point. Houston? That's crazy. I can't see Houston being a big hockey city.

Then there's the matter of Carolina, the least popular team in the league.

The NHL's been wanting to get into Houston for forever now. The biggest problem was that the Houston Rockets' owner blocked it every time they tried. The Rockets' new ownership, though, is a lot more interested in having hockey in the city. It's the 4th biggest city in the United States and they have some really dedicated sports fans. I think they can make it work as long as the owners/city don't pull a Coyotes.

Have no clue if the Caps can sustain this run, but they look a helluva lot better than they did earlier in the year.

Embarassing that this league has teams that are failing to draw fans and they want to add more teams. But adding a team to Seattle or Houston really has no impact on the situations in Glendale, Sunrise, or the various other troubled spots. It won't change the drawing power (or lack thereof) of the teams there. Honestly, I'm all for expansion in most of the leagues, just given that there are a lot more viable markets now than there were 20 years ago or so and the overall population of different regions just keeps growing. It might be tough at some point, though, as we'll get to a place where there'll be longer and longer title droughts for various teams just due to there being so many more clubs than there were back in the day. Noteworthy this season, but holy crap is the Eastern Conference ever making an argument right now for scrapping this playoff system and bringing back to 90s-early 10s one. You've got Columbus-New Jersey-Washington as the top three in the Metro, Tampa-Toronto-Boston top three in the Atlantic, the New York teams in the wild card spots, and that's all fine but, man, look at the East's standings and you've got every other Atlantic team at the bottom of the heap, and all the Metro ones in the top spots fighting for the wild cards. Maybe it'll shake out alright by the end of the season: Boston's got games in hand and will likely move up the overall conference standings, after all. But still, the new system really just feels overly complicated for casual viewers and opens up this chance that the top 8 teams won't be the ones to make the playoffs...which can be fine in, say, a sport like baseball, where the regular season and the pennant chase count for a lot more to the overall experience, but hockey is in large part based around the playoffs themselves, so wouldn't you want to ensure spots in there for as many of your top teams as possible?

Yes, but if you have a franchise that is in such shambles as Arizona is that is seemingly still there as a monument to Bettman's stubbornness and stupidity and you have a market like Seattle that is ripe for a franchise. Doesn't it just make sense to take the Coyotes and move them to Seattle and rename them? Seattle gets their team and Arizona is forgotten as one of the biggest failures of expansion (with Atlanta). The logistics of an uneven playoffs are kinda crappy though. It's just not that realistic to expect change. In St. Louis, we're a "West" team so we've had playoff games start at 8:30 pm. Can't see an East Coast team wanting to start a playoff game at 9:30 pm which you would have to do eventually to get the playoff doubleheader.

Rinaldo neexs to be suspended for........forever, honestly. He punches out a guy who hadn't even dropped the gloves with him. Good on EJ for beating him afterwards. MacKinnon even got in a fight. But Rinaldo has always been a shithead with no hockey talent. It's a shame that you have to be a historic shithead like Raffi Torres to get a real sizable suspension from this pathetic league. Rinaldo will end up getting like 10 games when this is a pretty dirty act and he's a repeat repeat repeat repeat offender. He's done it over and over again, and when he comes back he'll do it over and over again. Give him 100 games.
