A huge issue with Buck is that nothing about his presentation feels human. There's no stories (not that we need an overload of them, just SOME kind of connection), little heart or warmth, just very robotic recitation. It's really off putting, especially in a sport like baseball where human connection and storytelling are so, so important.
I think most Mets fans would agree that Ron Darling helps contribute to the TBS broadcast well. Not everybody always agrees with what he has to say, but he's sharp, Yale educated, and clearly studies up and gets to know the players well before talking about them.
And Doc Emrick is a national treasure, and I'll break a bottle over my own head and fight those who challenge that idea.

Would you rather have Harold Reynolds I'd rather have Burt Reynolds than Joe Buck

I miss Jon Miller and Joe Morgan. During their Sunday Night Baseball run I didn't miss a game.

I am from Fort Wayne and interestingly enough, Emrick grew up in a small town about an hour outside of the city. We have a hockey team called the Komets here that have been around since the 50s. Emrick listened to Bob Chase call the games, who have called them on the radio for 60 years and still does to this day. He even came to town for his 90th birthday and called a game with him.

I think the TBS team of Darling, Ernie, and Cal have been really good as a whole. I have to wholeheartedly disagree with you on that. Ernie Johnson calling baseball might be the single worst play-by-play man for any nationally-televised sport. He's the absolute bottom of the robotic, monotone barrel. I'll never forget his call of Eric Hosmer's home run against the Angels in game 3 of the 2014 ALDS. For my money, it's the worst call I've ever heard:

You're so wrong. ...It's three sports. He does the US Open on Fox for the PGA also. As awful as he is at baseball and football, he was goddamn TERRIBLE at golf commentary. Let that soak in. I've loathed Buck pretty much forever, but the most disgusting is when your team actually wins. You're going through the roof and the TV is giving you a "...It's Christian." reaction. He called the Phillies winning in 2008 like someone asked him what he planned to have for breakfast the next day. Fortunately, Fox was wise enough to play the call from the late, great Harry the K right afterwards.

But also, in the category of robotic, Buck is in a class all his own. The Tyree catch is maybe the best play in the history of the NFL. Definitely top 3. Not 3rd inning of an ALDS game. 4th quarter, 1 minute left, SUPER BOWL, perfect season on the line, crazy escape of the pass rush, greatest big catch anyone had ever seen before. Those two are on completely different planets in terms of bad calls. If you were to make a list of the worst sports calls of all time, Buck's Tyree catch has to take all top 5 spots just to illustrate how much worse it is than the next worst call.

Joe is a football announcer because all the great ones either stepped away or died. Pretty much hit the nail on the head. Got put in a tough position as the replacements to Pat Summerall and John Madden. Joe Buck and Troy Aikman don't even hold a damn candle to the, in my opinion, greatest NFL commentary duo.

I will defend Doc Emrick by also breaking a bottle over my own head. He is THE voice of hockey for me.
I usually don't like Buck, but he's had his moments. Like last night when the Cubs won the NL Pennant.

Buck has a very smarmy, sarcastic tone in his voice that makes him sound like an insufferable know-it-all. Imagine someone saying to you, 'You've never been to the French Riviera for the Cannes Film Festival?' Ten bucks the voice in your head sounds exactly like Joe Buck after a Randy Moss touchdown catch.

I've been telling people around here, "Why torture yourself? Listen to Pat & Ron call the home broadcast on the radio if Joe's that bad." I did that in 2005. I want "my guys" (at the time, Ed Farmer & John Rooney) giving me the lowdown.

I want "my guys" (at the time, Ed Farmer & John Rooney) giving me the lowdown. But the radio calls are ahead of the video feed, so it kind of spoils the whole thing. There needs to be a separate feed for people who want to listen to anyone else call the game than Buck. I'm sure it would be a popular option...
