AJ Styles is having the one of the strangest years in WWE history
- Debuts at the Rumble, making him possibly the first person in history to make his WWE debut in a WWE Title match - Loses his Wrestlemania debut to an (at the time) not all that relevant Chris Jericho - Cleanly wins a feud with John Cena - Wins WWE Title - Currently losing a feud to a legit Wrestling Challenge jobber while still reigning as WWE Champ
I'm half-expecting him to run the Gobbledy-Gooker over with a car at Survivor Series. AJ has been great the whole year through but if you had tried to predict how his first year would go and then saw this, you'd have been WAY off.

JBL did an awesome job. Well all of them did but Bradshaw went full Ventura and he blended in with his canon of despising Ambrose and the fact he was a WWF/E World Champion and he cares about the belt.

And Otunga worked with that perfectly as the face announcer, the guy who says "You know what? Maybe this can happen!" His reaction to No Chin Music and the near-fall that followed was perfect (maybe because he sounded like even he didn't think that was something that could happen). I think dude may be starting to come into his own as an announcer.

And it was done so well, everything got over and you wanted to James to win so JBL would have a meltdown.

The cageyness of the grizzled veteran James Ellsworth is being overlooked here.
The guy goes for weeks drawing attention to his two-handed attack. Hands this, hands that.
Then, at the exact proper moment, he attacks with his FOOT. Like OUTTA NOWHERE!!! AJ took the bait and paid dearly.

I'm half-expecting him to run the Gobbledy-Gooker over with a car at Survivor Series. Okay, it wasn't difficult for me to picture this happening at all. Styles is campy enough to run with this sort of thing and it would play into his current paranoid character. Basically, Ambrose would use the Gooker to mess with AJ and he'd go crazy and run it over because he thinks it's trying to take his championship. And in the end, we'd all love AJ more and go on and on about how great it is that he's willing to do stupid things and make it work.

What I love is just how much a short stint like that can change a persons life...He will be flooded with bookings from indys looking to cash in now.

The fact he escaped a chinlock because he has no chin is one of the most amazing things I've seen in wrestling in my life. His lack of a chin is part of his character, Styles even doing that move is part of his character and they both played the spot well. That's straight brilliant.

I loved not only the match but his promo beforehand. He was on the verge of crying talking about telling his grandkids one day that he wrestled for the WWE World Title on SmackDown. And you know what? I believed him. I felt that emotion. It felt real. That is why I loved Goldberg's promo on RAW. When you take a hint of reality and apply it to this weird world of professional wrestling, you get great stories and you get people to buy in. They need more of this.

Also, Ellsworth had THEME MUSIC for his entrance.
Granted, it was okay theme music, but STILL!
I think the younger me would think this whole thing is stupid. But being older, and loving some well-done comedy in pro wrestling (Chikara), this is truly a storyline that has kept me enthralled.
I could care less what happens on RAW now (Save for Sami Zayn). Smackdown is really showing where the good stuff is at.

Vengeance will be his!

Ellsworth has beaten AJ twice now...AND HE HASN'T USED HIS HANDS YET! I laughed at no-chin music, the failed chinlock and the in and out thing as well. does mean that Ellsworth is the chin that runs the inn now?

If you haven't followed Ellsworth on Twitter, I highly recommend you do it now. It'll just make you like the guy even more. His profile photo alone is great (for the same reasons his T-shirt works).
