I have a strong emotional link to music, as an escape, and as a way of working through stuff. Plus I've never understood the "boys don't cry" mythos. It's a normal human emotion. To me it's like saying "I had to leave the room so they wouldn't see me smile". But anyway, these are some of the ones that can or have made me cry. Some remind me of people I've lost or situations that weren't great: Florence and the Machine - "Conductor" Evanescence - "My Immortal" Empire of the Sun - "We Are the People" Fleetwood Mac - "Silver Springs (Live)" Melissa Etheridge - "You Can Sleep While I Drive" Marilyn Manson - "Speed of Pain" Annie Lennox - "The Gift" Dresden Dolls - "Perfect Fit" Prince - "Still Would Stand All Time" Tori Amos - "1000 Oceans" TV on the Radio - "Love Dog" That live version of Silver Springs off of The Dance album is for real.

Frank Turners Photosynthesis makes me kinda tears/passionate since I've felt old since 7.

Suppose it depends whether you consider slam poetry "songs" or not, but French musician Grand Corps Malade really manages to bring me on the verge of tears. His texts are so moving and he is one of the few people who can write about love in a way that I find actually moving and doesn't end up asinine and overly saccharine. In general, I love how his lyrics manage to be simultaneously realistic and optimistic, and considering his upbringing it's especially nice to hear. Plus he has an incredible, gorgeously deep voice.
To this day, I still get shivers when I remember my favourite line of his which translates to "the day rises and maybe it only happened because hoped for it strong enough". I just find it amazing that someone like that, who grew up in the slums in a poor family and became handicapped after a car crashed into him (there's a reason his stage name means "Big Sick Body") manages to say something like that.
So many people cynically say that bad things happen because people want them to happen or don't want to stop them, it's incredibly refreshing to hear someone argue that on the contrary, life is difficult and unfair by default, so everything good and pleasant that happens in the world happens because human fortitude pulls through and overcomes the struggles.
As for English-speaking lyrics, "The End of the World" by Skeeter Davis came very close to doing it. This song perfectly captures the frustration that adds up to grief when you feel like you're at your worst yet everyone else just keeps on living, so not only are you feeling like shit, you are also faced with the fact that the worst moment of your life is completely insignificant to the rest of humanity.

Because you loved me by Celine Dion...
My Grandparents died within a year of each other in 1997. They were for a very long time the only ones who absolutely loved and accepted me for exactly who I was. While my parents we're always saying why can't you just be normal.

songs don't really make me cry but a whole bunch give me a really strong bittersweet, nostalgic kind of feeling. It's not a negative feeling, I love feeling it. e.g.
no I dunno why some dude singing about a bunch of dead boxers would make me feel this way. I blame the mandolin.

Dream Theater's "The Spirit Carries On" makes me cry (out of context of the album). I heard it for the first time after my dad died and it really touched a raw nerve.
Also, I get a little teary-eyed during (and I'm not kidding) "Common People", specifically the verse:
"You will never understand How it feels to live your life With no meaning or control And with nowhere left to go You are amazed that they exist And they burn so bright Whilst you can only wonder why..."
I don't know why, but that gets me.

"What You Give" by Tesla. I always just assumed it was about the end of a relationship, I never really paid attention to the lyrics. It's actually about the loss of singer Jeff Keith's dog. My dog passed away in 2012; he was the best friend I ever had and I still miss him desperately. The first time I listened to the song knowing what it was actually about I absolutely bawled. Shit, I'm tearing up right now just thinking about it. I can't listen to it anymore.

Was playing on the radio on the way home after my first dog got put down. Couldn't listen to it for years without tearing up. Even now, it doesn't exactly cheer me up. Good song though.
This, however, still gets me. Even now, tearing up a bit. I think it's a combo of it being a sad as hell song, and looking so damn frail. He looks the spit of my grandad after my nana died and he just kinda...gave up.

Tom T. Hall: I love This song is like everything my dad ever really did like. If Tom had included a verse about eating too much jerky before supper and watching Walker Texas Ranger, it would have described my dad to a t.
Claude King: Woverton Mountain My dad's favorite song ever.
Cal Smith: Country Bumpkin My mom has always called me "pumpkin" all my life and this song has several verses that mention pumpkins. I'm so upset about losing my dad and this song is about a woman who dies...and I get scared over losing my mom too.
Tom Jones: Green Green Grass of Home The last verse "They'll all come to see me..." and so forth perfectly describes my dad's funeral and viewing.
Les Miserables: A Little Fall of Rain The tragedy of unrequited love causes me extreme sadness.
Les Miserables: Empty Chairs at Empty Tables The tragedy of losing all of ones friends is heartbreaking.
Blake Shelton: The Baby Another song about someone losing their beloved mother and my biggest fear of not being with my mother when she passes.
The Muppets/Sesame Street: If Just One Person A song I listened to over and over again during a very dark period of my life when I was considering committing suicide. It did help me get through, but I get so sad when I hear it.

These three, which always remind me of my late grandmother:
"O Holy Night" - Her favorite song, despite the fact she could never remember the lyrics. It was the same thing every time: "O holy night... [pause] ya da da da da dee da..."
"Moon River" - Her other favorite song which she could never remember the lyrics to.
"Feed the Birds" from Mary Poppins - She would always sing this while feeding the birds. The first time I heard it after she had passed was in Saving Mr. Banks. I completely lost it, right in the middle of the theater.

"Talking Bird" by Death Cab For Cutie. All pet owners, especially bird owners, should avoid this song. I've only listened to it once and I bawled. I'm tearing up just thinking about it.
"So Far Away" by Staind doesn't usually elicit this kind of response from me, but one time when my niece was very ill, it just struck a chord and I completely broke down.
You're all going to laugh at me, but there is a Steam Powered Giraffe song that I habitually skip listening to for this very reason. It's just ridiculously sad.
