They might turn their attention to Washington, who hasn't been to a Series since 1933.
Well, a Washington franchise, anyway. That particular team won 2 Series titles; we call them the Minnesota Twins now.

Considering that even though the two Senators franchises- first Twins with two Series titles, then the Rangers making World Series's are there, that'd still be the team to turn attention to (since the Expos/Nationals still be the longest-standing team to never make it to a World Series, forming in 1969 and never making it).

So if the Cubs win do they just end baseball? A lot of the statistical records are unreachable, and theres no real strong storylines left, Nah. The Yankees haven't been in a World Series in this decade(The Bombers have been in at least 1 World Series each decade since the 1920s), which is an insane stat in itself.

I'm here in Chicago this weekend and the whole city is up for this, I mean it's a big deal when the Yanks or the Mets do well here in NYC but its the talk of the town, wow.

You know anything is big when the Lions at the Art Institute are dressed up for a team. Besides, the Blackhawks and Bulls are just starting and both the Bears and Chicago Fire suck. Chicago needs the distraction.

I love the Cubs due to their fans, they stuck with them after many years of disappointment. The billy goat, the black cat and Steve Bartman, even with "cures" they still have hope and faith for their team. They haven't won a World Series for over 100 years and haven't even been to a World Series for over 70 years ( before this year), but people still watch their games and attend their ballpark. Their ballpark Wrigley Field is a US landmark, it has some of the riches history than any other stadium in the US. Wrigley Field is a proof why other teams around the US do not need a new stadium every 20 years, since Wrigley was used for over 100 years and the people in Chicago still loves it.
Last year if someone told me that the Cubs would make it to the World Series, I would jump for joy and hope they win it. However, their are two teams in MLB that I like more than the Cubs. One team had the worse season in their history this year, going 59-103. The Twins were awful, so they had no chance for making to the World Series. The other team was a team that I loved since 1995 and to this day I am still heartbroken after the 1997 World Series. It has been over 70 years for the Indians and I think it is their time to win.

On the BTTF note, I wonder what the odds were on the Cubs before the season. Because that was the whole 'thing' about mentioning the Cubs in that movie, they were 100-1 which enticed Marty to buy the Sports Almanac, etc. I doubt they were 100-1 this year because they were in the NLCS last year.

They were favored to win. Nobody was going to win money betting on the Cubs this year. That does make this year refreshing. The best team won; no Wild Card #2 bullshit getting hot at the right time.

I live in Oklahoma City. The small bar I go to was absolutely packed last night. Almost everyone there was a Cubs fan, with one Indians fan and a couple of other assorted people who wanted to see a historic game. The bartenders are huge Cubs fans and actually closed down for the bottoms of the 9th and 10th innings to watch the game with the crowd.
I'm a Royals fan, but it was impossible not to get swept up in the Cubs in that environment.

Amazing, amazing night. I hope the Cubs fans tore Chicago down last night partying. That said, what's the new "longest drought", of a team that's won the Series?

An article indicates that the overall most championship-less team is the Arizona Cardinals. Specifically baseball, I don't know. I think someone on here mentioned the Mariners?

I do have a bit of a question... isn't it better to have won in the past than to have never won?
Yeah, it sucks not winning it all for a long time. But try explaining all your "pain and suffering" to a fanbase that has never won... period.
I don't mean teams that have only been around a couple years. I mean teams that are old enough to have grandkids of their own (40+ years)
The Cubs were the last one that can say "basically nobody alive experienced the previous win". This next "long suffering" team is a different story.

So it looks like the Good Father provided an easy list for my previous question. Which is worse?
Winning your last title 68 years ago. Not winning a single title despite existing for 56 years.

I'd say they both suck. My favourite hockey team hasn't won a Cup since 1967, mostly due to years of horrible mismanagement very similar to what the Cubs suffered from. Ownership who knew the seats would be filled every game regardless of whether the team was in first or last. Sometimes blind sports loyalty, especially in a major market, can really bite the fans in the ass
