We had some talk about this in the baseball thread
Does the Cowboys win more then 3 titles but does everything end the same for him and the Cowboys like they did in Miami?

3 in 4 you can not really complain about but the long term plan was essentially done once Jimmy was gone.
Jimmy could of probably have them like the Patriots now, even though they do not win every year they are in position to win.

Replacing Don Shula was not a easy task first of all. He drafted pretty well considering he picked Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor who would become all time great Dolphins.
The most important thing is that him and marino did not click and when you can not click with your star it is a major problem.

He did as well as Shula did at the end with a broken down Dan Marino putting up mediocre QB numbers while trying to rely on running game at all costs despite not being able to put someone on the roster with a avg of better tan 3.5 ypc
Also not a lot of pushovers in the AFC East

Also Dynasties don't last forever. Its not like Dallas went into the toilet immediatlly after Johnson left. Switzer got them a title and really had one down season, Gailey and Campo were mediocre afterwards .
Do the Cowboys win any more title with Johnson? Probably not

Four straight. The 1994 team doesn't fall behind 21-0 to SF, and thus doesn't fall short of a comeback. They then steam roll the Chargers just like SF did.
I think they'd get at least one more after that as well.
But minimum 4 straight titles as they were 11 points from doin it without him.

Could it be that one of the reasons why Jimmy Johnson is getting passed over by the Pro Football HOF is because his Dolphins stint, while good, is nowhere near the success he attained with the Cowboys?
The other thing that could be holding his back is Jerry Jones (who is being nominated this year), who proved his point that "500 coaches could win the Super Bowl with the Cowboys" (built by Johnson), when Switzer took over for Johnson and won SB30 the following season.

He'll get in eventually, but if I had a say, I would put George Seifert in before him. His first six seasons are losing in the NFC Championship game to eventual SB winners sandwiched by Super Bowl victories (24 and 29).

Seifert will never get in thanks to that terrible 1-15 season he had with Carolina

If Johnson goes in I guess Superbowls mean everything. He doesn't have a remarkable record as a head coach, although he never had a really BAD season outside his first season and I'm unsure if he ever had a sub .500 season afterwards. But if a .500 record most of your career is worthy of the HOF that's kinda sad.

Seifert will never get in thanks to that terrible 1-15 season he had with Carolina Could it also be because of the perception that he only succeeded due to him inheriting Bill Walsh's team and staff?
