I think this okay to post, it's certainly not meant to be political so I figure it's okay. Today is Remembrance Day, I've just got back from my band's 1st of 4 Remembrance Services this weekend. This one with the local primary schools attending. We have a pretty big Remembrance concert tonight with our final piece being Pomp & Circumstance(ooh yeah!) and then two parades on Sunday. I must admit as a youngster Remembrance Day didn't exactly register with me, I knew of it and went to the services but I went through the motions. I'm nearly 30 now and I've noticed in the last 4 or 5 years it's gradually become more and more important to me, I guess as I wise up to the ways of the World and appreciate the freedoms we have today I better understand the gravity of the sacrifices made. My Grandfather fought in World War 2, he died in 1997 (when I was 8 years old and unfortunately was unable to appreciate what he did for our country) he never once spoke about it but his medals were framed on the wall alongside a picture of him in uniform. Thanks Grandad I didn't come into this with a plan in mind of exactly what to say so if it's a bit disheveled I apologise. We will remember them.

I think this is a good time to say thanks to all our vets here at the forum. Whether you served in peacetime or in battle, your decision to join does give us a sense of security.
Check out some websites or your newspaper. There are freebies/discounts to be had for active or retired military personnel. (Myself, as a vet, I plan to go to White Castle and take up their offer of a free meal.)

10 years ago, in my 5th year of high school, I made this video this video as a tribute to our troops in Canada and all those worldwide who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. It aired live on the school news that day, and I remember receiving quite a bit of backlash for supposedly "glorifying" war, whereas it's obvious by looking at the video that I wasn't glorifying war, I was glorifying all the brave men and women who did the one thing that most of us wouldn't even think of doing. Here is that video:

To think it all began because Archey Duke shot an Ostrich because he was Hungry.

I already got a free coffee from Starbucks.
