Jermaine Clement is basically the next Tim Curry. That's as much of a compliment as it sounds.

I loved the movie. And one of the things that really intrigued me, was that throughout "Shiny" Tamatoa dropped quite a few hints about his backstory, yet it's never fully fleshed out. Tamatoa admits he wasn't always the way he is, he knows intimate details about Maui's backstory, he's very casual when talking to Maui, and seems to imply that, aside from the missing leg, he and Maui have a pretty notable connection. I kind of want to see something like a short showing a flashback to their history together.

Just watched it. Holy Cow! This is the best Disney movie I've seen in ages. The songs are the most catchy and engaging Disney songs I've heard in forever. I love all the songs but Shiny and You're Welcome are my favorites. Shiny is proberly the best villain song in a while. Totally reminds me of Oogie Boogie's. I swear The Rock can do anything.

My niece has become a big fan, so I thought I'd catch it now that it's on Netflix. Really enjoyed it, my favorite Disney film since Tarzan. Great story and performances.
And it even made me hate La La Land even more, since there were several better candidates for the Best Song Oscar in this one that whatever garbage ended up actually winning.

I came into this thread and started reading it from the beginning, not thinking to check the post dates. So I spend a pathetic amount of time wondering why so many people here were just now watching the movie

It has the best songs IMO.
They also didn't get old in one week like Frozen did

I guess someone has to play devil's advocate but I didn't like it. In fact, it bored me so much I turned it off about 20 or 30 minutes in. I really don't see what the big deal is. Frozen was way better.

Frozen was way better. THANK YOU. I have a bunch of Disney fanatics who were praising it on Facebook, so me and the GF rented it off Redbox recently. Good. God. One of the lamest Disney movies I've ever seen. All the songs are hokey AF and only a few funny moments with The Rocks character and what's-her-face. Felt like a chore for both of us to watch the whole thing. I will say, the stupid chicken was funny.

I recently went on a Disney catch up kick and Tangled and this were the strongest by a country mile. This is Hamilton Jr. for kids (yes, I'm aware Lim did the music for both and it's George Washington telling us to consider the coconut), it's absolutely gorgeous to look at, Rock is basically the modern version of the Genie from Aladdin, plus when was the last time Disney made a movie with no definable bad guy? Antagonists, sure, but there is no dragon to slay in this movie.
It's fantastic and I love it too.

My kids forced me to watch this movie and it is stunning to llok at, a vehicle for the Rock, and has great music. Good redemption and a strong female lead. Contemporary classic.

The songs have grown on me, but honestly, I couldn't recall anything about the movie once it was over.
I think it's a movie that'd work better as a miniseries than a movie, where they could explore the monster's world more, fight more of the monsters unleashed, etc. before they reach the end.
