The White Sox pitchers & catchers report Tuesday and there's an extra buzz around the team. Bad or not, I love those guys. 2017 might not be a banner year for the Chicago White Sox, but I really liked the moves they made in the off-season to bolster their farm system and future. Trading Chris Sale had to have been a bitter pill to swallow but the White Sox landed two high-end prospects including Yoan Moncada (MLB.com's no. 1 overall prospect) and Michael Kopech (no. 16). And they absolutely fleeced the Nationals in sending Adam Eaton away for Lucas Giolito (no. 12), Reynaldo Lopez (no. 46), and Dane Dunning. So while the White Sox might not be contenders this season, there's no reason to doubt that they've built a very stout foundation for the future. And this is all before they acquire even more assets in the inevitable trades involving Jose Quintana and David Robertson. A starting rotation of Carlos Rodon, Carson Fulmer, Michael Kopech, and Reynaldo Lopez could be very formidable for years to come.

They nearly traded him to the Nats last year, but he used his no-trade clause on them. That led to the Nats getting Daniel Murphy, and me being very salty. Curse you and your no-trade clause, Brandon. That said, I get him going for this; if I read correctly, I think he's originally from somewhere around Atlanta, and almost every Georgian baseball player eventually plays for the Braves, anyway.

Man who knows where the Nats would have been without Murph. Blessing in disguise.

Speaking of freak injuries: Somebody tell the Red Sox to let Chris Sale know he isn't allowed to help anyone move.

Cardinals top Prospect and was the favorite to be the fifth starter Alex Reyes is out for the year with Tommy John surgery. He was not set in stone to be it but was the favorite so that hurts being he is a future ace, the idea of him and Martinez is going to be a hell of a one two punch in a couple of years.

He was dealing at the end of last year. We get Lynn back and lose Reyes. I bet we wouldn't have dealt Garcia if we knew this.

Garica wasn't good last year, he was hit or miss when it came to what we where going to get and was for sure not worth the 11 Million he making now. When you have Weaver, Wacha, and in a longer shot Rosethal who wants to be a starter like he was in the minors and cost less. I'm not going to count them out. The team isn't much different then 2015 where they one a 100 games without Waino currently. As long the defense in the infield improves as it should. They should be fine.

The Jays are signing Mat Latos, who is somehow still only 29.

The Jays are signing Mat Latos, who is somehow still only 29. The White Sox DFAed him last May after they got James Shields. Latos had an okay record but he gives up a lot of runs in 5-6 innings of work. Only difference between the two: you heard of James Shields and at one point he was good. (Right now, the pitching coaches hope they can get him back to that point.)

The Jays used only seven starters last year (Sanchez, Stroman, Happ, Dickey, Estrada, Liriano and Hutchison). The chances of that happening again are really poor, so having a guy like Latos around if somebody needs a rest or a DL stint is necessary. And I'm certainly not expecting Cincinnati Latos. We just need somebody capable of eating innings.

He also comes with a minor league deal, so it's not like Toronto is breaking bank or anything.

He wasn't good last year and I was against picking up his option, but he's an arm at this point. Weaver and Wacha were also terrible in the 2nd half last year. Rosey scares the shit out of me for one inning, I wouldn't want him as a starter. With Lynn on an innings limit, our depth at starter looks pretty wanting.
