I am biased to my Yankees team so yea they are usually on point when Michael Kay is not being bitchy that is. I hate "homer" commentators which is why I can not listen to White Sox games cause of Hawk. He's the television announcer right? I only get the radio broadcasts so I was referring to John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman. Yea he's the TV announcer and okay Sterling and Suzyn is even better. You can never go wrong with Sterling

You can never go wrong with Sterling Seriously? You can ALWAYS go wrong with John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman. Their play-by-play is the audio of my nightmares. The only thing more upsetting aurally than their voices is the sound of Roman Reigns' entrance music on Raw or a pay-per-view. I would rather listen to Roseanne belt out the national anthem on an infinite loop than have to endure one at-bat with Sterling and Waldman.

There is a horrendous corniness to Sterling's home run calls I find both groanworthy and hilarious at the same time. Otherwise, well, Sterling used to be really good but I think he's just gotten old and kinda weird. And Waldman's voice is just grating, especially when Roger Clemens is in George's box.
Yankees' TV team is better, though Michael Kay can be obnoxious at times. I like Ken Singleton more overall when he does PBP though more often than not he's on color commentary.

I rather listen to him tho then a lot of the homers on the other broadcast tho.

Yeah, Kay kind of comes across like he has too large an opinion of himself/a blowhard (though I may be conflating his on-air calls with when I used to hear his radio show on ESPN), but the Yankees have a legitimately solid TV booth when Singleton is doing PBP and David Cone is on color commentary. Coney is great with new era stats, especially compared with so many dinosaurs out there in most other booths who scoff at them. But yeah, part of it is obvious home team bias, but I can't imagine a better booth right now in the post-Scully world than the Cohen/Hernandez/Darling booth for the Mets. No, they're not great on advanced stats (Ralph Kiner, when he would show up on SNY about once a week, was more up on them!), but when you look back at how bad 2009-2012 was for the Mets (2013 at least gave us the arrival of Harvey), the booth was one of the key reasons to actually tune in every night. Really enjoy the Mets' radio booth's rapport, too, Howie Rose is an institution at this point and Josh Lewin knows how to play off him and egg him on in a friendly way. We've been spoiled with this club going back to the days of its founding, though. I will say that having XM and thus being able to hear each game allowed me to learn an interesting thing: I couldn't stand John Miller when he was calling Sunday Night Baseball games, but I don't know if it's because it's radio, but his call of Giants games is much, much better, dude's actually pretty damn good in his element with his team.

With MLB Audio I've pretty much listened to every commentary team and the only ones I liked were the Nationals, Yankees and Royals teams. I am biased to my Yankees team so yea they are usually on point when Michael Kay is not being bitchy that is. I hate "homer" commentators which is why I can not listen to White Sox games cause of Hawk. You can listen to the Sox about 3/4ths of the season now and not have to deal with Hawk. He's as part-time as Brock Lesnar. Jason Benetti (sp.?) is a bit of a dork, but he's likeable. Steve Stone actually sounds like he's having a good time with him.

Speaking of the Yankees, they've been tearing it up so far in ST. Hopefully they'll play like this once the regular season begins.

Here's a sure-fire tip: shoot for the middle of a series, game 2 or 3, especially night games. I don't want to say "Oh, Hawk only does getaway day games now" and be made out to be a liar. But, aside from Opening Day and holidays, I think he only does certain day games. He had eye surgery within the past couple of years, and he said himself he's winding it down "after 7 decades in professional baseball". He will fly out to do an occasional road game. But I'll keep you updated.

"Hawk's like a spoonful of Lima beans. Either you despise the very thought of them, or you grow accustomed to it." I don't think he's all bad...except when he starts getting pissed at the umpiring. Then I turn it off. I'm just more into radio: I can lie outside by the pool getting a tan, or do some work around the house and not be tethered by a television. Night games, I'll watch a little. Then put on my headphones and fall asleep listening on my Walkman.

David Price is going to Dr James Andrews to get a 2nd opinion on his elbow.

Kay is a lot less full of himself during games versus his radio show, which is really only listenable when he's off and Don La Greca takes over. He does slip into Michael Kay: Radio Host sometimes, but most of the time as Michael Kay: Play-by-Play guy he's decent enough. My favorite combo of Yankees booth is Singleton, Cone, and O'Neill. Al Leiter's pretty good too.

I know it's only ST, but you wanna know how different the Yankees are in terms of power this year? They currently have 24 HRs in 16 ST games. They had 20 in 32 games last year.
Seriously hoping this translates well into the regular season.

Seriously hoping this translates well into the regular season. I figured they would be decent because of the prospects the Yankees have but I have been pleasantly surprised by their play. Frazier and Glayber look to be as good as advertised so far and the starters have been performing well. I want to see the pitching translate to the season just as much as the power shown in ST

Joni Sledge of Sister Sledge died the other day. She was only 60.
Why is this a thing? Because Sister Sledge's big hit, "We Are Family", was the theme song for the Pittsburgh Pirates during their run to the 1979 World Series. They just celebrated the 35th anniversary last year.
