Because I didn't want to muddy up the Die Hard thread. Batman Returns is definitely a Christmas movie. The bats fly out of a Christmas tree. The circus gang attacks in the beginning during Christmas festivities. The fact that Gotham citizens feel sorry for the Penguin ties into the Christmas spirit of compassion. You see Christmas decorations and shopping all over. Catwoman even blows up a store.
Dude, it's a Christmas movie.

it's barely a Batman movie. As per the norm with Burton, the villain(s) is/are the star(s).

I should add that anything can be a christmas movie as long as it's tradition to watch it. Arguing about what and what not is a christmas movie is nonsense. Who cares as long as whoever watches it, enjoys it.

it's barely a Batman movie. More a Batman movie than Nolan's flicks Sorry I don't like the Nolan movies that much I dunno, at least the Nolan movies focused on Batman/Bruce Wayne. Always seemed that the villains got the majority of screen time/motivation for Burton and the Returns crew barely resembled Penguin and Catwoman from the comics.

I think I timed it once, Bruce Wayne doesn't have a line in Batman Returns until like 40 minutes in.

Any movie with a line like "Mistletoe can be deadly if you eat it, but a kiss can be even deadlier if you mean it" is a Christmas movie. Kind of a f****ed up one, but still.
I've had an interesting history with this film. As a kid I loved it, simply due to the cool gloomy atmosphere that Burton was still doing so well at that point. Then as I got older and more into the lore of Batman, I started disliking it for not being about him as a character and for having a very odd depiction of some of the villains.
These days though, I've come back around to viewing as an entertaining and whacked out Batman Elseworld story; one with a really great performance by Michelle Pfeiffer, glorious ham from Devito, and an intriguing look at an out there but mentally functional Batman.

All set in the most boring generic looking city ever. It looked like they filmed it in Coventry.

Personally I felt that Burton's version of Gotham didn't feel like a city at all, it felt very much like a City set than an actual living city.
