I've been critical of Edwards's run as the world champ/Lashley's punching bag in general, but Broken Matt is easily the top dog in TNA as of now, in terms of visibility and being a draw for the company. I'd dare say even with all of this insanity, him and Jeff have performed well enough to where I think they've elevated the belts.
The fact that we didn't even get a finish in the world title match, so they could focus on Ricky Morton trapped on a skywalker? I loved TND, but it was very telling in a way.

Ricky Morton probably thought he was on drugs during the match.

Ricky Morton probably thought he was on drugs during the match. I thought I was on drugs just watching the match.

Ricky Morton probably thought he was on drugs during the match. Thought? I sincerely burst out laughing at that.

The tag team titles became the top titles in TNA the moment they thought it was a good idea to give the belt to Eddie Edwards.

Speaking of Eddie Edwards and I don't want to get all Jim Cornette about it but how is someone like Eddie Edwards being the World Heavyweight Champion even vaguely realistic? Not saying the guy is a poor worker or even in bad shape but Bobby Lashley is like 6'4, 270 pounds and is a legitimate MMA fighter whilst Eddie Edwards is 5'10, about 205 and has no MMA experience. The ONLY realistic ways to get the belt off of Lashley is either a heel having 3-4 guys run interference and have Lashley get toppled by sheer numbers or have a heel viciously beat him with a weapon.
So if any casual wrestling fan did happen to see that match they'd assume wrestling was fake but that's not all. After this Eddie beats Lashley again, and goes onto beat every single TNA top guy on TV when just a month or two prior he was losing to DJ Z for the X-Division belt. How can I ever take Lashley seriously again? How can I take other top TNA guys seriously when they've lost to a midcarder who fluked a win?
And the funniest part of it all is the people at TNA scratch their heads and think to themselves "Gee, why isn't anyone coming out to our wrestling shows? What are we doing wrong?"

I don't want to keep busting on the guy because I like him a lot as a pure wrestler. He's a great athlete with good timing in the ring. But when I hear Kevin Nash talk about "vanilla midgets", well......yeah. Eddie needs to find a hidden spark of madness inside himself. Some wrestlers find their character at different points. For a while I thought Matt Hardy was always a bit blander than Jeff. and ever since he came up with Broken Matt it's like he's in a whole new zone. All of the memorable stars in wrestling, like Macho, Flair, Rock, etc. are a little "weird" in some way. Daniel Bryan was once pretty vanilla, then he turned into a bearded wildman who pointed in the air and got crowds to chant YES with him. Maybe Eddie has a great, crazy character we just haven't seen yet. If you can't pull off a "legit badass who could kill me" vibe like Lashley, Vader, Lesnar, or a lot of the classic Japanese stars, you're gonna need some color.

In Eddie Edwards case it's not just the size issue. A lot of smaller wrestlers can be a heavyweight champion but it's who he beat and how. Lashley was the baddest mother in the ring, kick ass left and right and here comes this little guy who has just lost not only to Lashley multiple times but others in title matchs. You can't have this dominating wrestler lose to someone on a losing streak and who looks wise looks as if a match should take less than a minute.

Exactly and this is why nobody will ever care about the TNA World Heavyweight Title again. Too many jabronis have held it.

As an aside, I don't think having Edwards and Lashley fight throughout the show without any kind of resolution did anything for the prestige of the World Title.
