Given the MNF game that is not bad.

Isn't that quite good rating for a show around Christmas?
Holy shit, I think this is my first positive post about WWE in 2016. It's only taken until December 29th but it finally happened!

Vince can open Raw and promise to take a dump in the ring for 3 hours and 10 minutes and you can be sure that 1) the arena will be filled, and 2) about three million people will watch it on TV.

I'm never shocked when RAW's viewership drops. The entire vibe is just a corny variety show, and really good performers are put in boring f***ing angles and matches. Skip ahead one night to SmackDown, and you've got a great WWE Title match and John Cena cutting one of the best promos of his life. They know how to make RAW good, they just for whatever reason want it to be MADTV.

But isn't that what he's been doing since, I guess, 2012? (I say this as someone who hasn't watched WWE in almost a year and who hasn't watched Raw in 16 months)

This is what amuses me when people argue with me when I say that Vince is horrible at his job and is making money in spite of himself. I'm going to use this as a counter-argument to their defense of him.

Actually, WWE's ratings have seriously tanked since 2012. In 2012 and 2013 Raw averaged basically a 3.0. It went down slightly to a 2.95 in 2014, but then the past 2 years it has been all downhill in a really alarming way. 2015 saw Raw slide to a 2.64. This year? 2.28 (and that was from Gerweck, which hadn't added the month of Dec. yet). Frankly I think these numbers are a solid indicator that what WWE has been doing the past 2 years just isn't working and isn't working in a big way.

Not THAT bad considering they were going up against not only MNF, but the Dallas Cowboys

I'd.... I'd tune in if Vince promised he'd take a shit in the middle of the ring.
I think 5 million other people would too.

Who was the dude he used to chase around backstage with shitty underwear? He'd make that guy go out there and clean it up with a teaspoon

Apparently, Smackdown Live! beat RAW in the ratings for the first time.

Apparently, Smackdown Live! beat RAW in the ratings for the first time. That is incredibly significant. SmackDown in any incarnation on any network has never done that. The audience has finally caught on that a fun and well-paced 2 hour show is a lot more enjoyable than a plodding and repetitive 3 hour show. I'm sure WWE will just chalk it up to John Cena's return hype, but Cena's been on SmackDown since July. The ratings bump putting them above RAW says to me that if Cena hadn't taken a couple of lengthy breaks since the split, SmackDown may have been consistently beating RAW for weeks.

Hopefully this will mean that WWE realizes the problem: Raw is booked around MOMENTS, Smackdown is booked around STORIES. Unfortunately- you may or may not get a moment if you build around moments, but a well-booked story will ALWAYS climax in a MOMENT. If WWE can realize this, Raw can be saved and hopefully they do. ...who are we kidding- AJ Styles, Dean Ambrose, American Alpha, the Wyatt Family, John Cena, Becky Lynch and Alexa Bliss will be on Raw by the Rumble.
