...the same franchise? With the news of Milt Schmidt passing away earlier today at 98 years old. It got me thinking who had greater success as a Player/Coach/GM for a single franchise? Or who even comes close? Or who even had greatest amount of success in all three main levels in Professional League Sports. Mitt Schmidt won the cup as a player for the Bruins, a Hart Trophy (League MVP) as a Bruin, coached the Bruins to a couple of cup finals, won the cup as the GM for the Bruins, traded for Esposito, and was the scout that discovered Bobby Orr.

From a European perspective you could include Franz Beckenbauer.
He played for, managed and became the club President of Bayern Munich (winning everything there is possible to win in Football during all three of his roles.)
Also if that isn't enough he also played for and managed the German national team (winning the World Cup as both a player and a manager) before becoming president of the German Football Federation.

On that note, Elway went to 5 Super Bowls as the Broncos QB, winning 2 and in 6 years (actually to the day as I type this) as their GM has been to 2 Super Bowls and won 1. In 22 season with the team they've had 2 losing seasons.

Vince Lombardi - a guy so successful that Super Bowl trophy is named after him
as Packers head coach in the 1960's he led the green and gold to three straight and five total NFL Championships in seven years, in addition to winning the first two Super Bowls following the 1966 and 1967 NFL seasons

Billy Martin played for the Yankees in the 50s winning a couple of World Series Titles, and coached them to another in 1977. He was also fired 79 times by Steinbrenner.
Ralph Houk won 3 World Championships with the Yankees as a player, and then won 2 with them as a manager.

George Halas:
1 championship as a player (APFA, 1920). 5 as a coach. All 6 as an owner of one of the most storied franchises in the NFL. Was part of the group that created the NFL. So he did everything. (There was no need for a GM back then; coaches did their own drafting and signing. During the Great Depression, he coached so he didn't have to pay the extra salary.)
Honestly, I don't see how you can top "Der Kaiser" Franz Beckenbauer.
