As a copy editor and aspiring English teacher, I love threads like this because I almost always learn something.

If I see "could of" one more time online, I will scream in a fit of rage I have often considered petitioning the mods to add "could of" to the swear filter so it's automatically replaced with "could have" or "could've" but I know it would get shot down so I haven't bothered. Same for "Zach Ryder" too!

I feel like I am in a small minority of people who actually say "going to" and "want to" instead of "gonna" and "wanna."

Depends on where you are. Here in the U.K. you very rarely hear it. One thing you do hear here is 'Can you borrow me some money?'. No, this isn't actually possible; I can LEND you some money and you can BORROW it. My partner and her son use it, and it drives me insane. Needless to say, I lecture them about it.

Well, technically, they could want you to go to a monetary institution and take out a loan on their behalf

Piss on the lot of ya, it's coulda. I'm good with that. It can still count as a contraction, just taking out hve instead of ha. But could of is not acceptable to me.

I have studied under successful, tenured academics that don't know the difference between its/it's.
I think it's an easy bet that 'its' now has an unnecessary apostrophe for life.

If this were Facebook, my Mandela Effect friends would be leaping in talking about how "It was always could of, then alternate realities changed it!"

It works if you're being sarcastic. "I could care less, but only a miniscule amount." Basically. Unless it's the same as "Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy", it's wrong.
