Often, people around here talk about how annoyed they are with fan chants. They argue fans are only trying to get themselves over or chant just for the sake of it. But let's discuss those times that chants were actually appropriate. I'm referring to chants like "Holy shit," "You still got it," "You deserve it" and "This match rules" and anything else that's sorta become cliche.
One of my favorite "Holy shit" chants in recent memory was when Ellsworth superkicked Styles and nearly won the WWE Championship. Admit it; you all marked out when he nearly pinned Styles and stood completely shocked.
Give us more examples. And try not to be negative or passive by mentioning stuff like the time they boo'd Roman Reigns or something.

You've Still Got It to Ricky Steamboat was a really touching moment.

Didn't SID get a "Holy Shit" chant when he came back to kill Slater?

The crowd chanting "WHAT A FATHER!" and "FATHER OF THE YEAR!" to Kevin Owens when he beat down Sami Zayn and took him out.
Perfect proof of the difference between SMART chanting and "smart" chanting, really.

There was that time when John Cena had to be the Nexus' butler and the fans chanted "don't give up" to him. It was about the most adorable babyface chant I'd ever heard and I'm not sure it can be topped.

Not gonna lie when New Day broke the record and Xavier Woods dedicated it to his passed Grandma, the crowd chanting "Grandma!" for him was awesome, you can tell it touched his heart that they did it.

Pretty sure when Shane McMahon returned we got rafter high "YES!" "HOLY SHIT!" and "THIS IS AWESOME!" chants and frankly, they were all deserved because that moment was just incredible.

During retirements, the "Thank you ____" is very appropriate.

The only time an "E-C-DUB!" chant really touched me was last fall. Totally by chance, Rhyno (who'd NEVER participated in ANY of the WWE's ECW Revival events) returns for the first time in front of a WWE crowd to ECW's home in Philly with a tag title around his waist.
The fans chanting for ECW got such a genuine almost-character breaking smile from him. It's such a sweet, wonderful moment that was appropriately brief, but I don't think an "ECW" chant like that will ever top it in terms of emotional resonance.
That was a very eventful Smackdown so you may have missed it, but if you get a chance revisit it. One of my top moments of 2016 for sure.

Still a cool moment though.

Fight Forever between Zayn and Nakamura. It felt like a truly special match. The hero's farewell and the new King's welcome.
Every attempt at a Fight Forever chant has died out since. And rightfully so.
Also, CM Punk chants the times Punk was actually in the ring.
