I'm heading to Vegas in April for a couple of days to attend a wedding, and then moving on to L.A. to visit a friend. Since this will be my first trip stateside since 2005 I'd ideally like to see as much as possible while I'm there, so can anybody suggest ways of making the commute more interesting than just hopping on a train or plane?

It's not that bad a drive, maybe 4 hours or so.

Hitchhike. Just be careful doing it in Bat Country.

Probably should've pointed out I don't have a license. So, how are you getting there? Flying from London to Vegas, and L.A. to London. Ideally I don't want to just make another flight between Vegas and L.A. and would like to see some sights along the way, but the only sightseeing trips I've found so far are round trips rather than between the two.

Ahhh. No idea than man. I've driven back and fourth from L.A and Vegas a couple times and it's pretty boresville. On the bright side it's not as long as it can feel if ya entertain yourself.

If you're flying, it's just an hour flight. By the time you're in the air, you're already landing.

Yeah, a flight to Vegas to LA means you'll be at the airport longer than you'll be in the air.
And there's next to nothing to do on a drive because Vegas is just surrounded by desert.

Stop by Peggy Sue's Diner. A fifties diner right about the half way point. You can't miss it. Signs leading up to it like those running gags on the Simpsons.

I hope you like giant thermometers and beef jerky! There honestly isn't much to see at all during that drive.
Signed, someone that has taken that trip numerous times since turning 21.

Trust me, just do the flight. It's super cheap and gives you more time to explore both Vegas and L.A. without the stress/heat of bus travel. You're basically skipping the part of the journey were you won't see any sights to spend more time where the sights can be seen.
I did the Vegas-L.A. thing last February, and as someone who share your enthusiasm to see everything and get the full travel experience, I couldn't find a single reason to not fly between the two.

Yeah, it looks like just getting on a plane is winning out on this one. Figured there might be at least something to see on the way, but evidently nothing worth diverting time away from the two cities for.
Thanks for your input guys.

Ive done the drive twice this month... There's nothing really to see except desert. And an abandoned shack or two. Fly if you can. Plus, there's so much to see and do in LA, use those hours that would be spent traveling on seeing cool stuff
