I sometimes go in the pool and ocean with a t-shirt on even though I am not fat or skinny or have any unsightly things on my back and front and I don't burn easily. I have no problem showing my back and stomach to anyone. I just have a shirt on in the water for fun because it takes me back to the days when I was a kid.
Is there anybody out there that goes in the water with a t-shirt on even though there is nothing unsightly with their back and stomach, is not fat, is not skinny and doesn't burn easily? One person said that no one does it and why do I want to be weighed down by a shirt?

Going into water without a shirt is a bad thing? I never said it was bad. I just asked the above question.

I'm just confused because wearing a t-shirt at the pool and beach in Australia is very common. Sure, we have hotter weather but with the way global warming is getting, I figured most places were doing the same.

When I do go into a pool it's always outside with my shirt on. But the reason is my shoulders just have to see the sun to suddenly become molten. I once burnt my shoulders really bad and it was f***ing agony. The only relief I had was kneeling down in a swimming pool with my shoulders under the water, which as I was petrified of water at the time (I'm a bit better now but still uneasy and certainly won't go into a large public pool), it was like a personal Hell.

I never knew that about Australia. It's just that some people say that wearing a shirt in the water might give people the impression that you hate your physique, have an unsightly scar or two, burn easy or any two or three reasons that I jsut said. Also, some people may say: "Why don't you get a tan? You should get one." (Forget about the fact that jot getting a tan in the eyes of some people is not laziness at all no matter what the reason.)
Is it wrong and/or weird that I wear a shirt in the pool?

I'm fat, and maybe it's because I have ZERO self-esteem, but I couldn't imagine going into water shirtless. I'm pretty much of the thought that no one would want to see me without a shirt. Ever. The only one I've gotten comfortable around is my wife and even that took a couple years to be entirely comfortable.
Even if it weren't for the self-esteem issues or being fat, I'm so afraid of being sunburned that I'd probably still wear a shirt. I've been burned bad enough to have blisters, BIG ones, all across my shoulders once and I never want that again. I burn easily as well. Plus a family history of skin cancer.

I often go into the water with a shirt on. I may be chubby but that is not the reason, believe it or not. It is because I have a lot of hair on my back and I don't want to show that off. I also have people commenting on my shoulders on how white they are. I usually have a farmer's tan because I don't show my shoulders much. When I go to a pool, I wear a muscle shirt usually.

At the pools I've worked at. We used to joke that's how you could spot the virgins.
Anyway, It's a personal preference thing. who really cares?

I've never swam in public without a shirt on. I was a fat kid who was made fun of constantly, so even now that I'm not that fat kid/I've lost a lot of weight, I'm still self-conscious about it. I just don't swim in public anymore. I always feel like an idiot and I feel like a lesser person, so I just avoid it all entirely.

I wear a rash guard when I swim in the sunlight. It's mostly because I am so pasty white and I don't want to burn. Nighttime or indoor swimming is done bare chested.

I wear a shirt when I go in the ocean in Costa Rica because I can handle all the little jellyfish stings... unless they are right on my manboobs or back.

I always wear a shirt in the sea to keep off the sunburn. When I'm in a pool I'm fine shirtless. In the sea though, I always keep a shirt on.

Not one person said they wear a shirt yet no shorts? I'm impressed. I would but I don't like jellyfish stings on my anus and wedding tackle. I'm sure somebody does though. Probably @supersweetbotch

I go in with a t-shirt on because I have an unsightly neurofibroma right on my abdomen. I get self conscience sometimes

I understand it as mostly an overweight gimmick, though I get it if you had like other weird things going on you're iffy on.
If you're in regular to above average shape though, wtf? You're just throwing away ego fuel.
