...he drove up and we ran out together for some errands at about 2:30 and he would've left on his way home at about 4:30(just under an hour drive.) His wife texted me at about 6:45 asking what time he left here and I told her the same. The last time he answered anyone's call was at about 5:45 when he called her to tell her he hit a mailbox on his way.
I called the liquor store where I work (the only one in town, and they know him since they've seen him a few times) and they told me he went through the drive-thru and bought a half-pint of his usual, Seagrams 7 American...so I know he's driving drunk(he's already gotten out of 2 DUIs because he knows people and his grandkids aren't allowed in the car if he's driving unsupervised)
So now we're left to wonder what the F*** is going on. I've tried to call him multiple times and gotten no answer. The only things I can figure are -
He's been in another accident and something is wrong, or... She told me he talked to the people whose mailbox he hit and said they told him people hit it all the time (VERY curvy, rural road.) But maybe he lied to her about that OR they talked to him and saw the condition he was in and called the police after he left.
Shit I'm a mess right now.

I've called the local ERs, no one by his name. Don't know about calling police dispatches because, while it may be best in the long run, we don't WANT him to get in trouble. So I have no clue what to do.

I would take the chance and call the police station. He may be with them already.

Yeah, I think you should call the police.
They stand a better chance of locating the car and getting to the bottom of this thing. Having a man driving around liquored up ain't so wise.

I agree with calling the police. I hope he's found okay, and that you can have peace

Thanks everyone. I called the state police and found him. DUI. Sorry to hear the results but I'm glad to hear he's safe and you can relax without the fear. You did the right thing.

I'm more relieved that he didn't hit someone else or kill someone else. As far as what's going to happen from here - I know what to expect with the court and legal stuff since I've been through all of that. What I DON'T know is whether it will have any lasting impression on him, and I'm very skeptical that it will. Of course, that's without knowing what exactly he'll be charged with. I do know that he was nearly 4x the legal BAC limit.

Well, now that that part is over we get to move on to the whole legal battle and him possibly facing his addiction (not likely.) I guess, if nothing else, it's a bit of a life lesson as I'm now seeing from the opposite side what I out people through a while back. I'm nervous for him, but at the same time hopeful that they won't just give him a slap on the wrist with it being his first offense because I think it will just empower him a little ways down the road, as it did when I was given a light first sentence.

A quick update - he was released from jail Saturday afternoon without his license being revoked (I've never been through a DUI process before, so I don't know if that would be immediate and pending formal charges and hearing or what)...hell, they didn't even impound his truck. Now, I don't wish I'll will on my Dad for anything but, at least for now, it seems like the only real consequence he'll be facing is the financial burden this is going to take with fines, court costs, etc and a temporary inconvenience if and when they do suspend his license (locally, it seems for a first offense the maximum time he'll be facing for suspension is a couple of months.) To be perfectly honest, I don't think that's going to be enough to keep him from going right back to drinking after things settle down. Needless to say I'm worried and quite frustrated, but I guess I'll wait until his court date on the 30th when everything will start to become more clear.

On one hand, glad he's been found On another hand, I feel bad you have to deal with his personal demons

On one hand, glad he's been found On another hand, I feel bad you have to deal with his personal demons Well, he's dealt with mine as well. I went through about a 5-6 year period of severe painkiller abuse that ended with 3 arrests, 4 months in jail, 5 years probation, a LOT of emotional stress that I put on my family, and probably close to between $25-30,000 after everything was said and done. That's why this is so troubling, because I can clearly see the path this is leading to, which is the same path I took after I was arrested the first time and get off really lightly - all of the aforementioned with the added stress of a suspended license, then after things cool down he'll more than likely start drinking again and it will be a matter of time until it happens again(and, being honest, we got extremely lucky that he ran off the side of the road and not into another car with passengers) at which point the punishment will be much more harsh. I talked to him today, but I know his personality and the mindset he's in right now, and he just doesn't want to talk about it, he just wants to face the music and get it all over with, but I know I can help and at least prepare him a bit for what may happen and I know I would have KILLED for someone to do that for me when I was going through it all.

While I'm thinking about it as well, I'll take the opportunity it to thank everyone for their replies, advice, sympathy...especially Friday Night, because I was out of my mind worrying about him.
Funny story, though... I called the local ERs first, and someone was at one of them that shares his first and last name, but it wasn't him. We then checked jailtracker before we called the police to see if he'd been booked and, oddly enough, there is a man in one of the county jails that shares the same First, Last, AND Middle name but, again, not him.
