I thought Gypsy Joe on stilts was the surprise entrant until I checked the internet to find out who that was. Considering that Gypsy Joe died in June, I'm guessing that Taker looks pretty damn bad.

Yeah I thought he looked shaky as hell in the ring too. He was doing that stuttering around walk he usually does towards the end of a thirty minute match when he's both genuinely tired and selling whatever move he's just been hit with... only this was 20 seconds in.

The man is an absolute legend, he's done everything that there is to do, he's financially secure, he's got a job in the WWE for life, and he's someone that should get an entire wing of the Hall of Fame dedicated to him. To guys like him, though, its just too hard to step away from what you've done for so many years. He seems to manage it the other eleven months of the year.

I continually read this as "Taker's Footlong" and it is jarring each and every time I come here.

A 51 year old 6'10" guy shouldn't be able to still work after 30+ years taking bumps.
I hope his brief stints in the company are huge paydays because he's going to be completely crippled by 60.

Can anyone imagine the absolute stumble fest that would be Mankind/Taker if it happened now?

He is Vince's favorite wrestler and I wonder if it's more Vince than Taker-of course he can stop if he really wants to, but he is the last of his kind I think, aside from Triple H I guess who has a legacy for a different reason

I do think Taker isn't doing this because he can't step away, more that he needs the money because he went through two divorces at the height of his earning power and made some major investments in real estate just before the bottom fell out of the market a few years ago. While I don't think he's like Ric Flair, I think he's coming out there because the Wrestlemania paydays will go a long way toward paying for the countless surgeries he'll need because of his size and the wear and tear of wrestling.

Once Taker steps away from being an in ring performer, he's still going to need surgery and the WWE won't pay for them or help unless they're a special case/potential PR nightmare, just ask Mick Foley or Roddy Piper before he died, the lack of support for retired wrestlers was a real bugbear of his. Taker isn't going to get any help from the WWE to pay for them and he's not going to get royalties cheques either as they effectively killed that system when they launched the network.

I'd be stupid not to take it.

Yeah, I noticed it too. Probably from his screwed up hips. That and his clotheslines were looking weak. But the punches still look good and I'm glad he's still around. Maybe he can make a comeback if he does some DDP Yoga. DDP Yoga is not going to repair his busted hips.

Mick made his name elsewhere and did stints in other companies after WWE. Roddy left Vince for WCW. Undertaker demonstrated staggering loyalty to the point that he was Vince's proxy backstage. If I had to guess what will happen when he hangs it up, Vince is going to drop as much as is needed to fix up Undertaker so he's 110% at his HOF ceremony, and then have him help out with training and such.

Taker worked Memphis and WCW, and used the threat of returning to WCW to get the WWF to let him drop the Undertaker gimmick so he could play biker on TV to the delight of no-one. If Vince didn't immediately offer in to pay for Mick's surgery after Foley took years off his life putting Rock, Taker and Triple H over, there's no way he would do it for Taker if there's any chance he could pay for it himself. If I were a wrestler and my options were work one or two matches a year as long as I can, or roll the dice on Vince or his heirs being charitable in my later years, I would work those matches, given the state many older wrestlers are in now.

Finally got around to seeing the rumble today and seeing old man taker fumble around the ring while looking he is one bad bump away from having his legs being destroyed is just sad.

Problem is Taker is looking like the legends that made cameos. The not in shape beer gut kind. His hips are in bad shape and he putting it off until he knows he done wrestling for good which I think he needs to be. The man has done everything a Main event talent can do. He respected by all and is a HOFer first year he done. You can say he doing for the money. You have to start asking how worth it is it if you can't walk the other 11 months?
