The Rock was just kind of a goofy salesman, really. He'd bump huge for anyone's move, just, usually in a way that made you suspend additional disbelief.
I'm sure oldtimers and purists hate it, but it's kinda identifying.

I always liked seeing how guys would take the Stunner. Especially guys who never got one yet. Whenever a new guy would debut, one of my first thoughts was always, "How will he take the Stunner?" There's a few ways:
Jump and land on both knees. Examples include Rock and occasionally Triple H. Also Austin when Rock stunned him.
Just drop down to both knees. Most of the roster. Foley, D'Lo on the monster truck, Big Show, HBK etc.
Drop to one knee. I usually saw Angle do this. Triple H also took it this way occasionally. Undertaker had an awkward one leg under the other approach, I guess because of his height.
Just bend over. Obviously Scott Hall is famous for the bend over and snap back sell. Others have done it as well.
I think those are the big four, I think. When me and my friends played around, I always did the jump and land on both knees and snap back. Like a Rock/Hall combo.

Anything is better than Trump selling the stunner. At least Trump actually tried. Linda's sell was just downright embarrassing: Eh, in kayfabe you could say the kick to the stomach was putting her down already.

Rock also sold Rhyno's gore like he was hit by a 18 wheeler.

So what would you say about Vince McMahon taking his first stunner and convulsing harder than that ass in Throwback's avatar?

Agree with all the comments saying Rocky was doing it to make the stunner look as devastating as possible. In fact the first time I bought Kurt Angle's Angle Slam as a main event level finisher was when he did it to the Rock and he sold it like it was the most devastating move on the planet. This is SO true. The Angle Slam early on just looked like the Overdrive version of a body slam and looked super weak. Then Rock took it and jumped before hand. He got higher, spun faster, and landed harder. No one ever took that move like Rock did.

I thought the HBK/Hogan match was great, lotta fun, didn't take it the same way the reaction I've read from people. I get that it's funny and the reasons may be classic HBK, but it didn't take me out of the match. Fits a Hogan match.
Likewise, can't say I ever had any complaints with The Rock's larger than life way of doing selling.

You know what? I'd love to see Rock sell a Stunner one last time.

The fifth most common is the Sgt. Slaughter style 'pancake flat onto Austin's shoulder and look like my neck has been snapped' sell. The Rock was just kind of a goofy salesman, really. He'd bump huge for anyone's move, just, usually in a way that made you suspend additional disbelief. I'm sure oldtimers and purists hate it, but it's kinda identifying. Yeah but this is The Rock, he doesn't even punch or kick the same way.

You know, Austin landing on his ass that many times can't be good for his spine or his colon for that matter

The Rock oversold everything. For all the flack Shawn Michaels gets, the Rock was every bit as bad, if not worse, but was nowhere near as good in any other aspect. Dude flat out sucked.
