Cena should've stayed as Dr. Of Thuganomics. He would've remained being held in high regard instead of becoming a polarizing figure.

LOL @ the guy saying Savage wasn't the most talented guy. Also the guy saying Rock Angle and Lesnar were supposed to be huge legends but they're gone now.

John Cena was definitely hated 10 years ago.
The motto back then was "If Cena wins, we riot." People were also shitting on Lashley, as he was getting the push to the moon(Vince is racist? Tell that to FAN/WrestleCrap in 2007). Batista was hated too, being a muscle bound wrestler that gets title shot after title shot.
I actually was one of those anti-IWC smarks at the time and was ragging on people hating John Cena/WWE and thought ROH was overrated. Over the years, I grew up a bit and can understand why people shit on Vince for the decisions he does make.

The WWE has proven that they can push anyone regardless of crowd reaction for as long as they want and eventually wrestling fans will accept it.
Roman in ten years will be a "legend" too in the same way Cena is.

Forget Cena, show us the thread that was made when Stevie finally showed us, and we saw.

I'm glad I wasn't posting here 10 years ago, because I was definitely saying the stupid shit abiut Cena online, and that'd be an embarrassing read.

Just imagine in 2007, almost 10 years later if you watched an episode of Smackdown from late last year, it featured John Cena, Randy Orton, The Miz, and The Spirit Squad.

Ten years ago I was sick of Cena. This didn't change until about 2011 when I saw just how good he was and I've rewatched a ton of his earlier stuff I "hated" and yeah, he's one of the best.
His matches against Umaga are so good it's a shame they're not brought up more.

I think Lashley's push in 2007 may have been even worse. Too fast too soon I was absolutely sick of the guy. And then he got released. Strange.
Cena had a decent year in 07. The hate was still there but he was putting on great matches with Umaga, HBK, Orton, Edge, even Khali! I think he gained more respect ring wise that year. The Cena hate was at it's worse I would say late 05 early 06 in the Angle feud where a lot of fans were desperate for Angle to beat Cena for the belt. And Angle got the World Title off the back of that briefly becoming the most over face in the company.

Cena as bitter, cranky old veteran is a license to print money.

Forget Cena, show us the thread that was made when Stevie finally showed us, and we saw. That thread definitely exists. He won a match one week for the first time on TV in months, and I think was let go very shortly afterwards.

Not across the board, no, still some people didn't (and don't) like him. But the point where the genuine rage seemed to fade, where he proved he can wrestle and didn't suck. He was having great matches with good workers and good matches with poor ones. The back-to-back WrestleMania wins against Hunter and HBK gave him legitimacy (as especially did that HBK Broadway on Raw) and he really delivered his best year to date in the ring. For a while, actually, I thought 2007 would remain his peak year in the ring. That pec tear at the end of that year, and herniated disc injury layoff in 2008, made it feel like he'd lost a step in the ring. He didn't have the same snap and energy to things. Still good, but less rarely great. It took a while but by 2011 he seemed to have his mojo back and then 2014-2015 he was just out of sight (argument for 2013, as well). I think those two are his overall peaks now, in terms of both quantity and quality.

Even though I was never a full-bore Cena hater, it took me until that 2007 run for me to see how good he was becoming. He already had some great matches under his belt before 2013 onward, but that was when he really came into his own.
