So exploring the FAN archives I uncovered an exactly 10 year old thread (well technically 10 years and a day) of what people would think of Cena 10 years from now. So let's open this time capsule: linkHow accurate that OP is if we say Roman is the current top face.

That Kenny Omega post was spot on, from what I've seen. Well, maybe not in WWE, but still.

Until reading that thread I had forgotten all about that "the world is gonna end in 2012" stuff.

"We used to say that Angle, Lesnar, and the Rock would be huge WWE Legends - they are all gone now."

Me 10 years ago:
Ironically, the guy they're currently trying to make be The Top Guy is more Diesel than Big Match John has ever been.

That Emoney guy is my friend who quit posting here.
I watch all the WWE PPVs with him. He lied about not watching wrestling 10 years ago

The posts about Cena going Backlund are interesting. It would make sense for him to join/become the Authority and espouse his real life WWE is the best thing ever all non-WWE things suck philosophy, going super hard on all the Vince speak tropes everyone hates. I mean, it'll never happen, and Vince would think that makes him a face, but it was interesting for me to think about since Mr. Backlund is one of my favorite characters, and I hate Cena.

Interesting that even at the time of pure hatred for him most said what we actually think of him now.

As someone who was on the board when this was made (and joined the board in April 2005). The Cena hate was real. Most people were very sick of him at this point. Not even with the "Super Cena" schtick but with how desperate they were to get him over. Go read around 2005, right around the time of the Christian feud, a good amount of us were seriously just wanting him to go away and it escalated during his feuds with Jericho and Angle.
Looking back, Idt any of us, however expected him to still be here in 2017. I think a lot of us were of the mindset that there was a window, not a giant hole in the wall when it came to Cena's run up to. At this point in WWE history, not many guys had long runs as top faces in the company. Hogan had 8 years, Bret had 5, Shawn had 3/4 in his original run, Austin had 5, The Rock only had 3. So for Cena to still be around and considered a top guy in 2017 was ludicrous. I'd hate to tell those guys who were on the board in 2005/06/07 that we are still seeing Cena and Orton on top of the company in 2017.

I don't like Roman, but I certainly don't miss the Cena days.
