Mario World. It was the biggest update from one game to the next, it introduced Yoshi (my all time favorite Nintendo Character, shortly above Boomerang Brother and Daisy for their appearances in Mario Superstar Baseball), and was just the most fun, first to last level, to play.
Mario 64 came in a pretty close second. Getting the 120 stars was pretty medium on the difficulty scale. Glad they re-released it on the DS with Yoshi, Luigi, and Wario. New stars = new fun.
Also, you cannot discredit the Paper Mario game for the Cube. Probably the most fun RPG I've ever played (though to be fair, it's probably the ONLY one, spare Pokemon and X-Men Legends 1 and 2 that I've played).

Super Paper Mario may very well end up being the best ever, whenever it comes out, and for whatever system (probably Wii). The humor/style of Paper Mario in a classic Mario platform game with multiple playable characters and a little of the RPG-ness tossed in as well..

I liked the 2nd one, because you get to choose who you want to play as. I also liked how you could pick the bad guys up and throw them at each other.

I voted for Super Mario Bros. 3, but I really love Super Mario Land, for the original Game Boy.
