I was think of adding Donkey Kong and Mario Bros to the list but nah they aren't tried and true platformers.
I love World the best because it was the first one I got with my beloved SNES.

Mario 64. I still love that game today. Mario 3 comes in barely behind it.

I said I was talking about the platforming games. then you still forgot mario time machine, mario is missing, mario land 1 and 2 for gameboy and others Mario is missing is a luigi game and mario's time machine had no platforming what so ever. Mario Land you could argue with.

It peaked at SMB 3, held steady with Super Mario Bros. for SNES and, took a tiny dip with SMB 64. After that it has been downhill since then. They could be on the right track with the NSMB for DS though, that was a great game.

Mario Land you could argue with. you can't argue the mario land games except the 3rd which was a wario game, they were side scrolling platcormers just like smb1-3 and smw, and time machine was a platformer, a platformer is any game that is characterized by the character having to climb up and down, or jump from and to, platforms and ledges, while fighting enemies and collecting objects required to complete the game, which you have to do to complete time machine

OK how about platformers of the main series on consoles.
