Multiple outlets are reporting that a Super Nintendo Mini could be available by the end of the year. www.cnet.com/news/report-mini-super-nintendo-is-on-the-way/A bunch of the articles I've seen are brief, and they attribute information to Eurogamer. Do any of you know if Eurogamer is a reputable source?

I'm just going to copy-paste what I said in the Nintendo thread about it:
I'll believe it when I see it.... on EBAY and Amazon at 500% markup and they never see a store shelf

Do any of you know if Eurogamer is a reputable source? They tend to both sides: either they are WAY OFF or completely on the money from what I remember. At least their English writing staff. They also collaborate a lot with Digital Foundry (you know, those uber techy guys that can spot if a game is 900p instead of 1080p from 100 meters away with a naked eye), so that should give you an idea of what they try to project themselves as.

if the rumors that the Mini NES is being discontinued due to licencing issues are true.
I'd expect the games to be first party.

If it happens, I've learned my lesson and I'm going to pre-order at the earlier opportunity. Though this time I would hope that Nintendo would learn THEIR lesson for a change and stop their horrible "false demand" game plan they love following and actually allow everyone that wants one to get one. Seems like that would be smart since, you know, they'd make a metric f*** ton of money in the process.

I really wish Nintendo would've made more of the mini-NES's. Their model for creating artificial demand by making very little supply (Wii, Switch, Mini NES, etc.) is obnoxious. Granted in the Wii's case that demand was genuinely massive but working at Gamestop at the time I can tell you that Nintendo did themselves no favors on the supply-side of things. Discontinuing the NES Classic is bullshit since they barely produced any to begin with.
I hope the Mini-SNES, if it happens, has much better supply. And Super Metroid.

I'd like to hope that if it's true, that people will stay away given the outright contempt Nintendo has showed consumers as of late.

Nintendo has shown outright contempt for its consumers for ages and it really hasn't hurt them too much outside of the N64 period. And even then, the portables have always more than picked up the slack.

The NES mini couldn't have been more insulting if it was shaped like a middle finger on fire. Can't wait to see the reviews on this one.

I really wish Nintendo would've made more of the mini-NES's. Their model for creating artificial demand by making very little supply (Wii, Switch, Mini NES, etc.) is obnoxious. Completely not true. Even with the NES Classic. Yes, they were waiting for a good return but the Wii exploded massively everywhere. They never accounted for the amount of people that really wanted a NES Classic (it was thought as merely a niche item for pure nostalgia) thus under producing in regards to demand (plus scalpers screwing everyone up) but if they're ending the production now, that means that there was never a plan to really sell that many of these, otherwise why create the artificial demand and then not banking on it? And the Switch is selling above their projections and beating their opening month selling record in more places than not. The only (and I repeat, ONLY) place where you really saw the "artificial demand" argument in full effect was with Amiibo. With consoles it's really more of an under-projection on demand which subsequently leads to being incapable of supplying it for a period of time.

I can already hear the pain and the anguish of thousand million of our American brothers and sisters that can't pre-order the damn thing. I really wish Nintendo would've made more of the mini-NES's. While I agree with your point, I do feel the under-production of NES Minis confirms that Nintendo's R&D department is run by a bunch of easily distracted manatees.

I would say more that the people behind marketing (since they are the ones with the sales projections) don't have a firm grasp on their consumer, especially out of Japan, leading to all of this.

There is no Virtual Console on the Switch as of right now, save for a handful of Neo Geo games.

That new console has no Virtual Console as of now (and as far as we know, may not happen until October when the paid online service begins). But the Wii U and 3DS also have one and games were released for it while the NES Classic-mania was in full swing. AND the appeal of the VC on the Switch should not be the NES titles, really.
