So, to back on the other threads doing this, I'm going to watch certain movies, particularly ones from 30-20 odd years ago and give my thoughts afterwards. This will both be movies I've never seen before and ones I have. First up: Since the movie recently turned 30, I figured I'd give it a watch. Downside being that I never really watched much of G.I Joe as a kid. Despite that, I still enjoyed this for the most part. The action was energetic and exciting and the animation was as good as I'd expect for an adaptation of a tv show from the 80's. Plus, anything with Sgt. Slaughter will at least peak my interest. On the downside, I think the movie flowed at way too chaotic a speed, even for 90 minutes. We don't get enough time with any of the characters to really invest much interest in them, save for maybe Jinx and Falcon. Speaking of Falcon, Don Johnson does a fine job voicing him, but even though his cockiness does get redeemed by the end of the movie, I still didn't care for him that much. Also, killing off Duke, but then souring it with the ADR "He's in a coma" stuff feels really cheesy. I get why it was done, Transformers the Movie killing off so many popular characters (especially Optimus) didn't fly too well, and trying to do the same thing with Duke seemed like it was bound to not work well either. In the end, it was no classic film, but it held my attention, and kinda did make me want some G.I Joe figures by the end, so in the end it did what it was intended to.

See, to me, G.I JOE: THE MOVIE > TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE. I thought the whole Cobra-La thing, while a tremendous piece of retconning, was a pretty cool concept, and did give the whole Serpentor thing a bit more depth. Plus, Nemesis Enforcer was pretty bad ass. In addition... Wasssss Onccccceeee a Mannnnnn. Freaky shit for 10 year old me. Plus, this opening can't be f**ked with....

Film historians consider this the peak of Burgess Meredith's career.

Too bad this never got a theatrical release in the states, and we have the Transformers movie's poor box office performance to thank (GI-Joe the movie went straight to video) and Duke's fate was changed thanks in large part to Optimus Primegate

The opening is still one of my favorite opening scenes for any movie. I didn't love the film, partly since I was never like a tremendous Real American Heroes fan, but damn.
NOWHERE TO RUN, NOWHERE TO HIDE PANIC SPREADING FAR AND WIIIIDE WHO CAN TURN THE TIDE?!

Sgt. Slaughter being especially badass in this was fun to see. "YOU. MAKE. ME. SICK." Yeah, I loved this movie. Like many things it suffered as I got a bit older (then I saw the TF Movie for the first time and was amazed) but it went back to being just wonderful fun that I still watch to this day. And as the finale of the Sunbow run at the time (wasn't going to be - they had another season planned), it's a fantastic send-off. Too bad this never got a theatrical release in the states, and we have the Transformers movie's poor box office performance to thank (GI-Joe the movie went straight to video) and Duke's fate was changed thanks in large part to Optimus Primegate And the Zarana topless scene being removed. Yes. This was storyboarded and was going to happen. Spike said "shit", and Zarana was gonna show her cans. They were working on a soundtrack on par with the TF Movie one as well; new instrumental score plus rock songs. I'd love to know who/what was considered for that score & soundtrack. Although I did end up loving the mashup score they went with when the new stuff got cancelled, which reused (to good effect) Robert Walsh/Johnny Douglas music from Joe, TF and even MLP and I think Jem. Thank goodness at least the top notch animation (AND THAT INTRO) survived.

Next up: Hocus Pocus Surprisingly a Disney movie I never watched as a kid, yet heard good things about for the most part. I liked the story, thought the acting was decent. The stand outs of course being Midler, Parker and Najimy as the Sanderson sisters. From their almost three stooges-esque characteristics to their culture shock scenes with the modern 1993 world, they stole every scene with how hammy they could get. The virgin running gag, I know Nostalgia Critic had a big issue with it, but I found it kinda hilarious and worked with the story. The effects are kinda weak for 1993 standards, especially the work on Binx the cat, but not weak enough to take me out of the film. Overall, it's no amazing film, but I think I definitely need to give it a watch again around Halloween to fully enjoy it.

I have never understood the love for that movie and I was 12 in 1993. It was a kids halloween movie staring the woman from Beaches. My older sister listened to the Beaches soundtrack all the time. So I had no interest in seeing it . I saw it once in school. It was ok.

I liked it when I was a kid. Campy and fun for what it was. Will probably watch it again for the first time in a long time come Halloween

I am a big fan of it. I also echo many in saying it is probably Sarah Jessica Parker's most attractive role by a landslide. That aside, I liked the rendition of I Put A Spell On You in it, and Sarah's song, while short, was also kinda catchy.

Ditto, I've seen plenty of people rave about Hocus Pocus online a fair bit and all I can think is "yeah, it's a movie that was released and I've seen it"

Next: Better Off Dead I don't know what I was expecting going into this one, but surprisingly I came out really enjoying this fun little 80's comedy from Savage Steve Holland. I like all the absurd running gags like the psychotic paperboy ("I want my 2 dollars!") to the drag racers with the one guy sounding like Howard Cosell and damn near everything involving Ricky. I also particularly like the building romance between Lane and Monique as I feel they play off each other well. It definitely feels like a product of its time, but for what it was I found it to be a fun sit. Also the burger

Better off Dead is a masterpiece. So many great lines and moments. Kash Flagg and myself have spent many hours randomly quoting the genius lines from this film. It's a real shame Cusack is a bit of a dick about it, rubbishing the film on more than one occasion.

One of my favorite all time movies. My friends and I used to go skiing and tell each other at the top of the mountain,"Go that way really fast. If anything gets in your way...turn."

He used to not sign anything to do with the film but I've read that lately he has.

The Addams Family (1991) First one I've reviewed here that I have seen before (several times). Of all the movie-to-tv remakes I've seen, I think that this is still one of the best made. Probably because it feels like the perfect mix of being close to the source material while still being contemporary enough for its time. The casting is great, with Raul Julia shining as Gomez Addams. No disrespect to John Astin, but Julia's Gomez is my definitive version of the character, as are the entire cast, playing their roles well. I will say the plot does feel a bit dull in places, and while not funny all the time, the movie does capture the hilariously morbid tone of the Addams very well. This movie does suffer from a lot of dated stuff though. Way more MC Hammer than I remember, some of the effects don't hold up well (though Thing still looks amazing), and I don't know why, but that blatant Tombstone Pizza billboard bugs me more than most product placement does. Other than that, it's a decent little film. Not a must-watch, but a good enough time killer.

You talk about Gomez, but between this and the sequel, Christopher Lloyd I liked better as Fester than Jackie Coogan's take. Twisted yet caring in his own way, even when he didn't have his full memory. Plus, the delivery of his line about what his name means in the sequel just cracks me up.

Definitely one of Lloyd's roles that doesn't get as much love as the likes of Judge Doom or Doc Brown
