Robert Downey Jr.'s career was saved when he joined the cast of "Ally McBeal".

Kurt Russell had a string of flops through the '80s, to the point where even he thought he was box office poison. The Thing, The Mean Season, Big Trouble in Little China, The Best of Times, The Winter People, and Tango & Cash all either bombed or severely underperformed at the box office. The '90s were a lot better for him, though he still had some notable flops, in Captain Ron, Escape from L.A., and Soldier. I never realized how big a Kurt Russell fan I was until this exact moment. I love all these movies.

Robin Williams was in The World According to Garp, Baron Munchausen and Toys before Goodwill Hunting and Aladdin.

Stallone came back in a big way with Rambo, Rocky Balboa, The Expendabls, and Creed. Stallone has comeback a few times - Cliffhanger and Demolition Man re-established him following Stop or my Mom Will Shoot. And then again as you mentioned. Mind you, he was brilliant in the under-rated Oscar.

Robert Downey Jr.'s career was saved when he joined the cast of "Ally McBeal". Where he nearly killed it and himself again with drugs and arrests. Then he managed to star in a little superhero movie. 😁 RDJ is like the one celebrity I wanted to see get sober and healthy. He just seems like a really cool nice guy.

I know Downey was in a dark place when he was making Ally McBeal but I wish he wasn't so harsh about his performance and the show in general. He was excellent in it and really had decent chemistry with Calista Flockhart. The Producers of that show gave him a chance and he reverted back to his old ways, he shouldn't really have any complaints about it. It's actually weird watching it now as his character plays like an early prototype of Tony Stark.

Jessica Lange.
Debuted in the critical flop King Kong (1976), in which she's one of the worst things in it, too. Then barely did another film for the next five years.
41 years later - 2 Oscars, 5 Golden Globes, 3 Emmys and a Tony plus still getting work and rave reviews. Heck of a turnaround there.
