WWE have signed independent wrestler Kennadi Brink (who has wrestled for the likes of SHINE, ROH and SHIMMER) as a referee, where she will be WWE's first female referee since the 1980s. Rumours are that she will be one of the main referees for the upcoming Women's Tournament. squaredcirclesirens.com/wwe-signs-kennadi-brink/

First female referee since the 1980s? What about Jacqueline? I'm guessing for the purposes of the article, they mean someone signed explicitly to be a referee.

I'm so pumped about this. I don't know the referee in question, but it's about time we got some female refs in WWE. I just hope they don't keep her solely doing women's matches though. She needs to be used for any match, no matter the participants or stipulation.
But definitely good news.

Rumor is they want females at all on camera roles for this (or as many as possible) so I'd expect one or two more.

Why not sign her as a wrestler?

I'm of two minds on the women's referee thing, in that it's a good move provided they're gender neutral about it instead of always women for women, always men for men, but I know WWE would do that because they love doing pointless fragmenting like that.

If this includes commentary, it'd be interesting to have a female play-by-play commentator. I don't think WWE have ever had one, and it might be a first for mainstream wrestling overall (correct me if I'm wrong).

Renee did NXT and one of the secondary show ls recently, and I would guess would be first in line for this. I think she was play by play anyway.

I think she was colour commentary with Phillips or Brennan or one of those other PBP guys that didn't make it out of NXT.

Congratulations to her. It's about time. Hopefully they keep her on after the tournament.

Rumours for announcers are Renee Young, Charly Caruso, Beth Phoenix, Lita... and even Bayley or Charlotte Flair.

Maybe she'd be better when not in promo mode but I'm glad it apparently won't be JR. They'd be wise to look for seasoned indy talent. I also think Trish & Lita could be neat.

Pretty cool. I've always thought the lack of female refs is a little odd. I hope she works men and women's matches.
As for the announce team for the Women's Tournament, isn't JR doing it? I do think they should have a female legend join him. Thing is, announcing is a real skill, and it's not the same as being good on the mic. Avoid Lita please. Madusa could either be good or very bad. I think Trish would be able to talk confidently, add insight and sell the moves that are occurring. Beth Phoenix could also be a surprise...she was never much in terms of mic skills, but she's good at talking (as judged from her Hall of Fame speech).

I wonder if they're gonna be bringing Lilian back to be the ring announcer.
