Always thought they should have rolled with that. He came out, did a promo, showed the shirt and, IIRC ... that was it. It would have been good if he'd have kept it up, probably could have sold a lot of shirts. And build him up as a heel, run an injury angle or two where he hurts people and gloats about it ... then when Austin returns they can feud for 6 months an Stone Cold goes over in a big way. Now you've got Owen as a main event heel and you're better off. Oh well.

The whole injury angle after Owen broke Austin's neck just has Russo written all over it. The work turned into a shoot turned into a work, bro!!!
I think I remember Owen doing the move before and after the incident, and that move can be botched a dozen different ways. It really is scary to think about how wrestling would be different if it hurt Austin worse (think Droz) and how things would be today.
I think the worst part of it was that Owen 'forgot' to call Austin afterwards according to Bret. I don't know how you forget to call someone whom you damn near killed. I call bravo sierra on that and think it is just revisionist history to make Owen look like an angel.

He mentions that Owen was known as a locker room jokester but after Owen didn't call him, he didn't find him that funny afterwards. JR does a forward claiming Owen was embarrassed that he botched a move coming from such a prestigious family. Ironically Im pretty sure it was reported that Austin didn't call Chono after breaking his neck.

If I was a pro wrestler and I hurt someone like that, that person would be sick of me I'd call, text, etc them so much.

I think the right thing to do is contact somebody, offer your apologies and hope for forgiveness, but I can see why Owen would be ashamed of himself, especially being such a nice guy. Did Owen injure Shawn Michaels as well a while earlier with an enziguri?
