Some workers go on to succeed in many other facets of the business. They move from wrestler to manager to announcer to security detail. While guys like Vader or Earthquake may just stick with wrestling, some people had great success in second or third careers. Bobby Heenan was a wrestler until he hurt his neck. Then he went on to top notch work as a manager then an announcer. Who had the greatest, most well-rounded career in "this business. "

Makes the fact that he ended up being a better worker than a lot of the guys he managed even more impressive.

Regal. Whether it's in ring, as an on air authority figure, a character, trainer and with all he does behind the scenes. He's God's gift to wrestling as far as I'm concerned.

Teddy Long might deserve consideration.
Maybe not at the top of the list, but at least a mention.

Dusty Rhodes, Pat Patterson, Roddy Piper, Terry Funk and Ted DiBiase could all be in this conversation. Out of your list, who would you put at the top? Probably DiBiase. Wrestler, manager and commentator (and good at all three). He also started as a referee and later was part of the writing team and a road agent. Dusty had the significant booking role that many of the others don't have, but his commentary was lacking and he was never really a manager.

To expand on Heenan: wrestler, manager, announcer, broadcast journalist, DVD commentator, weasel. He was the best at almost all of them.
