"Hallelujah." It's like all of a sudden people are claiming it's the best song ever written even though none of those people even knew it was a song until the exact same trendy follower type told them to like it. Every stinking time it's played, people respond to it like it's the first time they've ever heard it while going on and on. And the endgame? Everyone and every tv show and every movie in the past five-ten years now has to play it every chance they get. Or, I guess Shrek probably is a good marker for where this insane fandom took off. Never mind that it was a little under 20 years late since it was first a song. That song has been run into ground. And again, people saying "what a great song choice," "oh, I've forgotten all about that song," "the correct decision is that song; no one will ever think of it." It has completely died from overexposure for me. Not to mention, late-to-the-party fans of the song have made it even less tolerable for me.
EDIT: One more thing, let's not forget the great Leonard Cohen's death. That's just intensified its overplay. "Leonard Cohen? He died? Who was he again? Oh! Well, let's start playing his music even though we never uttered his name over once in our whole lives while he was alive." That's always a pet peeve: trendy maudlin group mope sessions that have that late-to-the-appreciation-party aura to them.

And 'California Love' by Tupac will be used in every movie trailer where someone goes to LA or something I find most of the time it's this:

Try by Pink
A few years ago I worked at a place that had radio tuned into a station that played that song two to four times a day, every day for a goddamn year.

That's always a pet peeve: trendy maudlin group mope sessions that have that late-to-the-appreciation-party aura to them. Just to piggyback on this, IMO it's not even Leonard Cohen's best song. I prefer Suzanne, Famous Blue Raincoat, and Teachers all more than Hallelujah. Great song, but not the greatest. To continue with the thread I nominate: Shape of You, anything by Ed Sheerhan actually but that one is some serious shit.

"I Got You Babe" by Sonny & Cher. I truly felt Phil's pain in Groundhog Day.

As for so-called classics. Here are some I don't want to hear again thanks to overplaying on a oldies station which seems to be the go-to station for places I work. Damn baby boomers or such
Note: some of these I don't think are bad, I'm just sick to death of hearing them.
Any song by Billy Joel The Lido Shuffle by Boz Scaggs One Hand in My Pocket by Alanis Morrisette Just Can't Get Enough by Depeche Mode ... Note: This one saddens me. Depeche Mode have a great back catalog spanning the 80s and 90s (hell even the 2000s) but they only play this one over and over again. Africa by Toto Rock DJ by Robbie Williams Careless Whisper by George Michael Funky Town by Pseudo Echo Never Tear Us Apart by INXS Big Yellow Taxi by Counting Crows Drops of Jupiter by Train... shit anything by Train... WHY ARE THEY STILL A THING!?

And "Hey Ya' by Outkast. When that song was out, it was like there were no other songs that could legally be played. What I found annoying about this was that I remember hearing some rock station in my area actually playing it.

Especially Enter Sandman. It got to a point where when I'd play the Black album, it was automatic to skip to the second song.

Anything by Huey Lewis & The News.
I like them, but - between numerous Back To The Future screenings in my home and working retail for 2 1/2 years where I swear they signed an exclusive contract to play nothing but their music - I'm burned out on them.

Jar of Hearts, and that other song Christina Perri has out All of Me, by John Legend. Was never a big fan of it, anyway, but it got overplayed to hell. Someone Like You, by Adele. Also overplayed to hell Good call on 'All of Me'. It seems like it lasts twenty minutes.

Any of the Motley Crue radio hits outside of Shout at the Devil. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Crue fan, but it seems like every time I turn the radio on (which thanks to USB and AUX cables isn't very often) the one rock radio station left in the area plays Kickstart My Heart, Smoking in the Boys Room, or the like.
Same goes for any of the hits by RHCP and Pearl Jam.

Not that I remotely like Katy Perry's vapid songs as it is, but even if I did, "Eye of the Tiger" was played so excessively in every department store, restaurant, commercial, etc. that I cannot stand it. That one and "Call Me Maybe" are some of my least favorite pop songs ever that I hear at a constant basis. Which is funny since I avoid this stuff like the plague and yet it reaches Minions-level of marketing in that it's everywhere all the time.

Unless I willingly play them which is usually when I don't feel like skipping them because I'm listening to the albums they're on: - Mr Brightside (love/hate how it's become a meme) - Smells Like Teen Spirit - Sweet Home Alabama - Stairway To Heaven - What I Got - Wonderwall - 21 Guns
