As said before, if the game is good and has a good story, I will do all that I can. Puzzle games I tend to try to 100% as well.

I tend to just stick to the story and the side missions. The only games that I've gone on and found all the collectibles in are Arkham City and the Tomb Raider reboot, and neither felt worth it. You are crazy

Ocarina of Time is the only game that comes to mind. Every year I attempt to 100% a Final Fantasy. Every year I fail. I'm sort of doing that now with FFXV but I wouldn't say i'm trying 100% as much as I am just playing the game until I get bored with it again

Depends on the game and the incentives to do so.
Most games I'm fine just doing the main story quest and being done. If a game makes sidequests fun and an interesting part of the story, like the Arkham games, I'll probably do them. If a game has random collectibles for the sake of collectibles, then that game can go suck an egg.

I don't typically 100% complete games just because there's rarely anything interesting enough to justify it. I did, however, 100% complete all three main Arkham games (Origins annoyed me too much) because they're so damn good, so there's that.

I barely ever even finish games. I get close to the end (of what I think it the end) and then get sad it's almost over and I'll never touch it again, so I start dicking around until I get bored and move on.
Most recently (that I can remember), FFXV. Never finished it. Got to the last mission, started doing side quests, then moved onto the next game without ever finishing it.
The only games I have ever 100%/Platinum'd are Bloodborne and Binding of Isaac (on two different consoles).

To me, completing a game is finishing the story mode. As many have said, side quests are a great thing if they add to the overall narrative. Red Dead and Fallout 4 having been the last two games I have played beyond that and still do. Kinda got there with Skyrim but I never finished the main quest.
As far as 100% games, I think I have done it twice, and both times were Telltale games. What most games require for Platinum or 100% I just find to be annoying busywork for the sake of replay, of which I am not a fan.

Kinda got there with Skyrim but I never finished the main quest. Thanks to this I just remembered I'm in the same boat. Finished every side quest, but have yet to complete even 75% of the main quest. Guess I'll be giving it another shot over the summer.
