It's really amazing. How the hell did we go from this ...
... to this?
Please discuss.

While there were some periods of non-contact between the two, I do love that 7 years later, this is still a simmering conflict.

Stuff like this is what I like so much about wrestling, in that when Miz and Daniel Bryan were put together, you know no one really planned on them on again/off again feuding for seven years, it just sort of happened that way. Every time they crossed paths it was fun to watch and you don't really realize the overall story between them that's been subtly building for a long time. As impatient and ADD as wrestling seems sometimes, stories like this unfold about patiently as anything, anywhere.

Man I'm even more sad about Bryan's retirement now because this should have been a Wrestlemania main event.

Bryan has become what he despised. HE'S BECOME THE AUTHORITY!!! He did everything in his power to keep Miz down while he was on Smackdown.

I pooh-pooh the idea that wrestlers need to write their own promos, but one of the advantages is that wrestlers remember and care about their own characters' histories, and bookers don't, necessarily.
Miz, especially, has such an actor orientation towards his work. He just puts in effort to make his character consistent over time.

As interesting as that was, I couldn't stop laughing at Ryback's apparently Thunder From Down Under gimmick in the first video.

They are a perfect example of two guys who hugely contrast each other in every way but somehow bring out the best in each other's weaknesses. I love how a retired Daniel Bryan still managed to bring out the best in The Miz's in ring skills. It's shit like this that makes me love wrestling.

Also I love how the first thing Daniel Bryan said in the WWE was "Yes" and The Miz told him to "Have a Good Catchphrase."

Also I love how the first thing Daniel Bryan said in the WWE was "Yes" and The Miz told him to "Have a Good Catchphrase." almost as big a book end to a career as Edge's debut and final match both being against a guy called Jose and involving a career ending neck injury. And yeah, this just reminds me that Miz promo'ed the shit out of that segment. Shame the actual title reign behind it was a miserable disappointment.

No matter how certain things about his run has gone, Bryan has made incredible use of building a consistent character history. His relationship with Miz, and for that matter his relationship with Michael Cole, have both been handled very well in how they've evolved.

Bryan has become what he despised. HE'S BECOME THE AUTHORITY!!! He did everything in his power to keep Miz down while he was on Smackdown. That's what I thought with his promos with Carmella. Carmella came in with a well thought out and frankly right argument and Bryan's like "Na I'll do what I want". Doing what's 'Best for business'.

I would like to see a list of relationships like this that actually have good continuity in WWE history.

I would like to see a list of relationships like this that actually have good continuity in WWE history. Tito Santana and Rick Martel. They broke up in the 80s, and yet, whenever their paths crossed, even into the early 90s, they always were at each other throats. Like at a battle royal or Royal Rumble. umm...that's the only one I can think of.

It's weird how young Bryan looks in these NXT videos, he looks like he's 18 years old. The beard really ages him.

Bryan vs Miz was so frustrating on Smackdown last year. It was far and away the best booked, most heated feud on TV at the time. But there could be no conclusion, no final match, no Bryan stepping in to take Miz down. We just had to wait for nothing. And It's so agonising because they bring out the best in each other and we'll never see that big blow off match.
Sucks.

When Bryan goes in the HOF I'd love for Miz to induct him. It would be a nice bookend.
