So, I don't get a lot of time to game anymore and when I do get games it's usually when they're well past their shelf life, with my responsibilities I can't really afford to get a new console. I grabbed Destiny this week for a Lincoln, figuring why not. Seemed like something I'd enjoy. Wasn't even sure if the game was still being supported (the answer to that is: kinda, servers still work anyway, just no updates, which is fair to me). Got into the overworld and got a random friend request. Was sort of puzzled but figured what the hell, why not. Accepted, that person then joined my fireteam. I didn't even know what that meant honestly (it's your party), and I went out on my first official quest. In the middle of it I got a message, "have you never done this one before?" and I said "no, literally just started" and they replied "oh, well I hope you enjoy yourself!" and accompanied me throughout. Midway through I got another, "I just kinda barged in and invited myself, did you want to go at this first one alone?" and I said "No honestly, I actually appreciate the assistance" and we fought our way through it together.
I honestly expected whatever was left of this community to be mostly trolls but I was floored to have a positive experience right out of the gate. Let him know what times I'd usually be available to play and made a friend of it. For an anxiety ridden person who admittedly does prefer to go at things alone it was so refreshing to have an encounter that was so weirdly pure and friendly. Again, this may seem like no big deal to most but in the state of our world it did make me happy to see some people still just are nice people who legitimately want to help you have fun in the game you're playing and enjoy the company.
