It's a tie between Return to Oz and The Witches. I'm convinced both films were made with some malice towards kids.

WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT. And it's not even close, due to this scene making CARTOONS scary:
I'm beginning to think this movie was never made for kids looking at Jessica Rabbit, just analyzing her drawing for a good hour now...

I voted for Dark Crystal. At least the other films had calm moments. I couldn't even watch DC's protagonists without pissing my pants WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT. And it's not even close, due to this scene making CARTOONS scary: I'm beginning to think this movie was never made for kids looking at Jessica Rabbit, just analyzing her drawing for a good hour now... It wasn't a movie for kids. I mention that in the poll

This begins and ends with Return to Oz. It was the only thing I even thought of, though after reading this thread, Willy Wonka's tunnel scene and Large Marge came back to me. Still, Return to Oz was just a terrifying movie.

But was that actually a children's film? I thought it was supposed to be political/satire. Yeah, it was never a kid's book or film. Parents just saw "Cartoon bunnies!!" and sat their kids in front of it.

Parents just saw "Cartoon bunnies!!" and sat their kids in front of it. Worked for me. I sometimes wonder if the idea of it being scary to kids is less kids being scared and more adults assuming kids would be scared because of the adult themes. Because I watched it plenty of times as a kid, and all I got from it was "yay, bunnies... wow, some bunnies are jerks... dogs don't kill rabbits haha he's right, oh, wait..." On topic, I also was quite a wuss as a child, because Willow was the one that scared me the most.

You know, I am curious about some of the ones mentioned. I have only seen bits and pieces of The Neverending Story and Return to Oz. I will admit that I finally watched Labyrinth last September when it was re-released in theaters for a special engagement. I don't know if I would have felt creeped out if I had watched it as a child. However, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure had moments when I had to leave the room or change the channel, particularly when the dinosaur eats the bike in that dream sequence. However, what got me was the clown doctor scene and then came when we saw the devil. Funny fact, it wasn't until a year ago when I watched it that I finally realized that Satan was Francis.

But couldn't have said it better I still marked as a kid for Bugs and Mickey chilling together so the nightmares were worth it

Was The Last Unicorn meant to be a kids' movie? Because there was some whacked out stuff in that. (and they do have curse words, depending on which copy you watch)
Spoiler: after seeing the film, thinking about the Harpy actually made me feel nauseous.

Voted RETURN TO OZ, because gah. (DARK CRYSTAL's a close 2nd - actually saw that when I was a kid, while I saw OZ when in high school)
No TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE, though? Or GREMLINS even?

Hell, watch the most recent Pee-Wee movie, and it has the scene with Queen Elizabeth body-splitting and the Mouth-Eyes.

Even as a kid, I never thought of any of those as scary. Awesome to varying degrees, but not scary. Yeah, I was never scared of those things. I remember watching Return to Oz all the time for instance and never found things like the wheelers scary... and Labyrinth is one of my favorite movies of all time... and I really can't think of anything in that I'd even consider scary...

Graphic Autobot death. PRIME DYING. G.I. Joe: The Movie was more all-around creepy, though, IMO. That one frame from that Care Bears movie.

Return to Oz. I had nightmares for weeks after seeing it for the first time when I was a little kid.

The Witches would be up there as a scary children's movie for me.

The Scarecrow in Return to Oz was 100 times scarier than anything else in that movie.

I still get the creeps from Return to Oz. The room of heads, the statues, and man the wheelies, all terrifying. Labyrinth creeped me out too but Return to Oz was a whole different level of creeped out. Oh my God, the f***ing Wheelies!
