I know people always mock the Luger celebration after the countout win at Summerslam 93 but I always thought that the storyline for that feud was he was fighting for America and not the title so it sort of made sense.

Wouldn't have mattered either way for me, I was always a Bret fan and he was the guy at the time

Gotta say Yoko.
Especially, with that celebration.
Since he did not win the title and the stipulation was this is your only shot at it...
he should have been pissed off and not being treated like a conquering hero it made him look like an idiot.

The Yoko one. It killed all his credibility. To be fair though, I'd have booked 1993 wayyyyy differently. Going off track, red-hot babyface Mr. Perfect wins the Rumble and beats Bret at WM IX. He drops it back to Bret at KOTR. Yokozuna works Hogan at Mania in a special attraction match. Narcissist Luger wins the KOTR and works Bret at SummerSlam. I'd still have Bret win that, but it wouldn't hurt Luger nearly as much as his failed babyface push did. Odd how many loose ends there was with Lex Luger's heel run. He attacks Bret Hart with a running forearm at some fan breakfast during WrestleMania weekend. Then he attacks Tatanka after the bell rang ending their King of The Ring quarterfinal match in a time limit draw. There was never much in the follow up to either one of these incidents.

Fact that Lex got over as the American baby face in 93 showed that the failed NWA chases didn't destroy him beyond repair. But after SummerSlam '93? Damn, he was ruined. He never was over ever again, WWF or WCW. He had a couple shock moments, showing up on the first Nitro and the World title win over Hogan on Nitro, but nothing lasting.
Count me in to the group of kids that sat there confused as f*** why there was that celebration over a count out win. It just made no sense.
Prichard did a Lex Express podcast awhile back, I think I need to relisten to it and get clarification on the whole deal.

is it coincidence that this question was asked on Cornette's show this week? Unless it's the same guy, then yeah. The drive thru wasn't released until about noon today. Nope. I asked it there, then made the thread here.

I think losing the WCW belt to Hulk Hogan in under a week hurt Luger far more than any failed title chase, from that point on he became just another upper midcarder.

Blood stoppage. Literally why?
None of the others severely damaged a company, that one gave the message "Flair is champion forever, f*** you" to the NWA audience
