In this thread, let's post and discuss game music or soundtracks that worked better on each system.
Obviously they each had different sound chips that emphasized different types of sounds, and it can be fun to analyze how those differences impacted the artistic outcome of a game depending on the platform you played it on. First party games from each company clearly knew to prioritize their own system's chip, but it might be fun to compare games that were on both platforms, or games where intrepid YouTubers have done their own covers on the other console's sound board. How do you think it changed the experience?
Normally I preferred SNES's "fuller" sounds, but there were just certain games where it was painfully obvious that it belonged on Genesis. Top example?
(Genesis)
(SNES)
Yeesh.
Kind of enjoyed this, though: somebody re-doing Mega Man X's soundtrack as it might have sounded on the Genesis. It's good stuff, and some tracks might actually work better here, though I think the SNES sounds did a better job of capturing more of the late 80s/early 90s hair metal vibe of the first X soundtrack.

Not many I recall playing on both systems, but I do recall both Earthworm Jim and Mortal Kombat sounded better on the Genesis.

Not many I recall playing on both systems, but I do recall both Earthworm Jim and Mortal Kombat sounded better on the Genesis. For instrument replication (ie orchestral tracks), SNES killed it. Genesis's strength was in the techno and industrial stuff. Earthworm Jim especially had an OST that seemed designed for the Genesis sound chip:

Lemmings is one of the rare times Genesis destroys Snes in the port soundtrack department

I really have no idea. Mostly cause back then I rarely played video games with the sound on. I would mute my TV and put on a record or CD to listen to. It wasn't until the Dreamcast came out that I bothered listening to video game music.
