Just looking at the films currently showing in cinemas like Spider-Man, Wonder Woman, Planet of the Apes, Baby Driver, Dunkirk. Then there were a few films that came out right at the beginning of summer like GOTG 2. All that and we still have The Big Sick (here in the U.K. anyway), Detroit, Atomic Blonde and The Dark Tower to come in august. Admittedly there's been some crap, Transformers, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Mummy, Baywatch, King Arthur and others. But in the whole I think this summer has been one of the best seasons in years. It's been pretty varied and many critical and commercial hits. I'm aware I've left out some other big films but these are just off the top of my head.
And the best part.... in the last three months of the year we still have Kingsman 2, Blade Runner 2049, Thor 3, The Snowman and The Last Jedi.

The only summer film I am gonna go see is the Dark Tower. The rest I will wait on Blu ray.

I'm pretty amped for Atomic Blonde and Dark Tower, but after that I'll have my eye on the fall movie season- indie award contenders, some of the high profile animated films, Last Jedi and Kingsman 2, etc.

Spiderman was f***ing amazing. Top 5 Marvel movies, easily.
I haven't seen the rest. I was only able to see Spiderman because my wife stayed home with the baby while I went to the movies with my cousin, while we were home visiting family.

I still need to see Apes. Gotta make sure I see that on the big screen before it's gone. The turnaround on movies being in and out of the theater feels so much quicker now.

I think it's been a banner year in general, but what I like about this summer is that there's good stuff for everyone. You had the more mainstream hits like Spiderman (eh), Wonder Woman (terrific), War for the Planet (decent), Baby Driver (super fun) and Valerian (really enjoyed it!). But you also had really random, weird movies hit the big screen that I enjoyed.
For example, while most critics didn't like it, I really enjoyed The Mummy as an "Army of Darkness" version of the Mummy. Same for King Arthur - a lot of people didn't enjoy it, but I had a blast at this one.
I know they weren't well-received, but I'm always glad to see off-beat films like those still getting made. I'd hate to see the industry only do big, safe films at that level.
The BEST part was that films like The Bad Batch (LOVED IT), My Cousin Rachel, Okja (on Netflix), The Little Hours and A Ghost Story are all out in the theaters AND we've still got Atomic Blonde, Patti Cake$, Ingrid Goes West, The Glass Castle and Brigsby Bear to look forward to this summer.
This is the most stacked summer I can remember.
I know people like to pine for the past with movies, but personally I feel like since 2011/2012 the quality/quantity of great movies have been going up with each passing year.

I'm really excited for Dark Tower, but I heard (On Twitter, so you know, grain of salt...) there would be no press screenings. If that's true, that's not a great sign.

It's the best summer for super hero flicks and this year is probably the best year for super hero films. Most movies I've seen this year have been solid except for Alien Convenant. Dear Lord that movie was terrible and almost as bad as Promethesus

I think it's been a banner year in general, but what I like about this summer is that there's good stuff for everyone. I think that's really the key point, variety. Want to see a good superhero film? There's GOTG, Wonder Woman, Spider-Man. Comedy? The Big Sick A fun action film? Baby Driver, Fast and the Furious A fantasy/sci-fi action film? Planet of the Apes, The Dark Tower (although there's no real consensus on this with no reviews out yet) An animated film? Despicable Me 3, Cars 3 A new film from a critically-acclaimed director? Detroit, Dunkirk A detestable piece of shit? Baywatch, Transformers And that's just the more mainstream films. There's the smaller releases you listed and several more.

So far it's been "average" for me (Some stinkers), The only film to wow me this year is Wonder Woman (Watching Spider-Man Friday, And Dunkirk when I get the chance)
Looking forward to "Dark Tower" though and a few others
