Why did wwe keep this guy around for so long and then never speak of him again? I was never really a fan at all. I had no idea he had been a wrestler and a manager. As a kid, he was a pudgy British guy who annoyed the crap out of me. Anytime he was in the broadcast booth or in an interview I tended to be less interested. He had the longevity of the fink or mean gene but you never hear about him in any nostalgic nature. Any thoughts?

No clue, but I've seen a ton of wrestling from just about every era/style and I don't think tht I've ever seen a Lord Alfred match. Anyone know if he was any good?

I think by time WWF was going for the nostalgia factor, Lord Alfred was in pretty poor health. He left in 1995 and they weren't really doing any Legends deals in the late 1990s. WWF still wasn't doing much in bringing back classic guys in the early 2000s. I am surprised he didn't get a HOF induction during the first three years like a few employeed WWF guys got at the time. I'm sure if he were around now WWE would be making fun of him and putting him physically harmful situations like Jim Ross.

Yeah, that stuff will never go away.

Yes, something like that but Vince and other backstage guys would be able to do it now.

I believe the story is that when he was let go, he didn't take it well. Backstage, he was very well liked and everyone took him being let go very hard, even Vince. Pretty much after that, Hayes' life went to hell. He lost a leg thanks to a car accident and then died a few years later after being in terrible health since the accident.

After the trial, Vince announced that all staff was going to be taking a significant paycut and Hayes refused and left. Went back to Texas to live with his daughter. Dillon talked about it in his book.

I wanna know why he looks he's being held at gunpoint to be on camera at Mania 1.
He looks and sounds terrified.

He was billed from Windermere, yet all the people I've heard from that particular part of England sound absolutely nothing like Alfred. I always thought he was an awful commentator and a pretty bad backstage interviewer so when he stopped being on TV I was actually quite happy.

Even as a fellow Brit it would annoy me how he'd refer to Savage as the 'Marcho Man'. It's 'Macho', Lord Alfred, not 'Marcho'.

A bit of a royal watcher in my day, so here goes: for Lord Alfred Hayes to be styled as he was, he had to be, in kayfabe, the younger son of a duke or a marquess. Younger sons of earls are styled "The Honourable Alfred Hayes" and the oldest sons would take the most senior subsidiary title held by their fathers as a courtesy title: "Viscount [whichever name or place is given the title]". Ditto Lord Steven Regal (whose name wouldn't have been spelled that way in any event, but you know, 'rasslin'. )
