I still have both games. They still hold up to this day. I really wish there was an actual followup to the second game than what we were given. I think from jump they always wanted to get away from the wrestling aspect after Vendetta but Fight for NY was really popular and yet they still released Icon stripping away a lot of the popular aspects of the game I wouldn't have minded a different fighting engine, but it would have been better if the story had followed the other two games.

Of course I don't think people would have complained if they revamped the engine and experimented but they basically tore it all the way down and tried to add that bass drop shit as a weapon based upon the song. Yea, getting away from the original story to was a downfall. Vendetta and Fight for NY connected with each other and they could have found a way to make the 3rd game work or at the least tried to keep a familiar setting if you couldn't bring back the rappers from the 1st 2 games

I would have been fine with it HAD IT STILL FOLLOWED the previous games. Sure, the rappers were among the selling points of the games, but then you also had the awesome AKI engine. I would have liked it if they had the fictional characters from both games appear, like D-Mob, who was one of the main characters. Of course, in the end we got Icon. I know that there is also Fight For NY: The Takeover, but I have never played it.

Never got around to playing FFNY, but I played the crap out of Vendetta back in the day, Ghostface was the man in that one.

I have a bias for Vendetta because Scarface is my favorite rapper of all time.
That said, I love FFNY. Excellent game, still baffled how Sean Paul was the most difficult to defeat in the whole affair.

I question everyday why there hasn't been some form of HD remake of FFNY Considering how spread out and bigger some of the names in those games are, image rights must be HELL to get at this point.

Upon re-checking the roster, you may be right. Snoop, Henry Rollins, Fat Joe, Meth, Redman, Busta, Danny Trejo, and Ice T alone might kill the budget lol. Everyone else should be happy to get the call imo

One of the things about Vendetta that stuck out to me was that every now and again when you went to the top rope, Funkmaster Flex would shout "Watch him bust his ass!".

This thread inspired me to watch Crime Tine/Super Best Friend's Let's play of this game. They hate COMP by COMP and Bless's songs so damn much.

I also liked that of the 74 playable characters in Def jam FfNY a lot of the non-rappers were actually quite good to use or even amusing in there own right. From Skull & Masa to Baxter & Jacob the Jewellery guy.

From Skull & Masa to Baxter & Jacob the Jewellery guy. Jacob was real, by the way, but yes, he was hilarious to play as. He was the epitome of one of those characters that the really good players can school an opponent with. Like how people can use Dan from Street Fighter to school someone. The same could be said about Drake and Pee-Wee from Def Jam Vendetta.

That AKI engine really was probably the best wrestling system they will ever devise. You could set literally any concept behind it and the game produced would still be a lot of fun. That AI was brutal though. Sometimes you simply had to lame it out to survive. That part wasn't so fun.
I don't even like 99.9% of rap and I treasured those games, especially FFNY. The customization of your dude was so deep and silly. The odd meshing of the various in-game fighting styles was fun to play with too.

My friend and I had so much fun in Fight For New York making all sorts of insane characters in the CAC. Like this big ass black dude with a platinum blonde 'fro and baby blue eyes. And Shinji Ikari.
