The movie did not need to be that long. It wouldn't be brilliant if shorter, but it'd be a shitload more tolerable. Let me put this into perspective. In the entire film Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice himself is on screen for roughly like 18-19 minutes. A lot can and should happen in that amount of time on film. That is time spent wisely. Baywatch is more than 2 hours long. Shaving even 15-20 minutes off would do it a world of good. Same goes for Sisters with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, which feels like it clocks in at just short of a decade. Comedies RARELY need to be more than 90 minutes, and Baywatch was not one of them. Hire a goddamn editor, comedy directors. Reminds me of the Lone Ranger remake which was 3 damned hours long. There is no excuse for that type of movie to be longer than like 90 minutes.

Haven't watched it. I'm sure I'll give it a watch on HBO down the line. Surprised it got received as such a dude, it seemed like a can't-miss prospect. Rock. Daddario. Efron. And just the the Baywatch property with a Rated R rating. I wasn't expecting a critical masterpiece. Or something well received. But I was expecting something over the top in a go big or go home very unapologetic stupid kind of way like That's My Boy or Dirty Grandpa that have their unique charm to it. Instead the movie has this weird direction where you're like oh my God it's trying to be serious with Zac Efron's troubled character background or this action sequence isn't being played up for laughs. Or it rarely pokes fun of it's source material or the genre like The Jump Street movies did. And this movie was only made because of The Jump Street Movies to copy it's formula. Like it's weird like you mentioned it's a Rated R Meta Comedy Baywatch movie in 2017 with The Rock, Efron, and Daddario it shouldn't be boring. I'm not saying it's easy to make it a good film but it should be impossible to be boring. I have a feeling the only guy who didn't get the appeal was The Rock and I wouldn't be surprised if he was the one who pushed for a more serious tone.

I haven't seen it, but from what I understand, a big issue is they tried to make it about how people liked the original show ironically like the Jump Street movies did, but somehow failed to realize that people didn't watch Baywatch like that.
They watched it for one reason, and two reasons only, and Pamela Anderson housed both of them.
Also, I just wanted to say that 22 Jump Street is the smartest Satire movie since Blazing Saddles, and really deserves more recognition for that fact.

Saw this at the dollar theater and it was somehow even worse than I was expecting. I stayed for Kelly Rohrbach, but when I got out I felt like I'd been in there for at least 4 hours.
As for Dirty Grandpa, I also saw that at the dollar theater but at least I got some laughs out of that.

mom and i started watching it last night and finished it this morning. we literally had to take a break from it because of how confused it was, and also the dialogue was way too meta. just...not a good movie

I haven't figured out how the Rock is making so much money in Hollywood because his movies defy the laws of physics and suck and blow at the same time. Baywatch was his first flop in several years (And it even probably turned a tiny profit). Even his more forgettable fare like San Andreas and Hercules were big hits internationally. The movies don't have to be good at all, they just need to make money. That's the only thing that matters in Hollywood.
