to puzzle the audience? Cuz that's the main reaction it's getting-mild befuddlement.
Just saw a Youtube clip and the vast majority of the crowd could not give less of a shit.
If it's meant to get him over as a heel, it ain't workin.
If it's meant to make him sympathetic, it ain't workin.
He's desperately needed a character refresher for quite some time, but clearly this wasn't the right direction.
Poor dude just can not catch a break.

It astounds me how badly they've bungled Dolph in the past year. They managed to repair him a good bit with the Miz feud, but then they had Miz win the belt back for absolutely no reason and that basically killed all of the momentum he had going right there, and by now he feels probably the most irrelevant he ever has. And that's keeping in mind that he was once squashed by Brodus Clay in four minutes on PPV.

It's the most e-fed one man show thing ever and I'm just baffled every time it happens.
Like, who keeps greenlighting these and why are they so mean?

It's making me beg for his release. It's just awful and never ends.

Dude needs to go to a different company and get a reinvention that isn't built on the stale "I'm the best but nobody sees it but me" character trait. He needs a SRS Jericho level reinvention.

The company really dropped the ball on Ziggler in general. He was white hot and over when he defeated Del Rio, managed to capture that same aspect when he was the sole survivor during Survivor Series, and once again showed what he could do in his feud with Miz. I honestly feel as though they've just continually pulled the rug from underneath him out of spite.
What spite? Who knows. But the man can wrestle, bumps and sells amazingly, and actually can put on a great match with just about anyone on the roster. I blame creative more than I blame Dolph and I wouldn't blame him if he didn't renew his contract.

I think he already tried it when he superkicked Jerry Lawler in the heart. In my opinion the problem was his voice, Jericho pulled it off by speaking slowly and he sounded like a bad ass, Ziggler just sounded the same and whiny. The other main factor why it worked with Jericho was because Chris lived that character even in public. He refused to have merch. If he did interviews outside of the wwe, he stayed in character. He even went to the point to refusing to sign autographs even for kids. Dolph on the other hand tried to be a villain but then in twitter kills the whole persona. Off topic but in my opinion "The best at what he does" Chris Jericho was the last real heel in wrestling. Nobody else since embraced the role.

I wonder if there's a character he could do with his voice that wouldn't just be "whining about spot on card". I really wonder if he's capable of another character honestly.

Well Jericho found that slow voice after training a couple of years in improv and acting workshops. It's up to Ziggler and if he wants to go the extra mile.

Ziggler hates gimmicks ...but he has a gimmick of dressing up as wrestlers.

The gimmick works for me. It's not entertaining or clever, but then Dolph's a heel; we're supposed to find him annoying. We should want to see some deserving face (Roode most likely) shut him up and prove that it takes more than a funky entrance to be a star. In some ways what's going on now feels like a rehash of what they were doing with Ziggler and Nakamura when he first showed.

The gimmick is getting him heel attention. People don't like it. That's the point.
It's the most refreshing thing he's done in years.
His talent has a ceiling and he's repeatedly bumped his head on it because it's so low.
He's best utilized as a jobber because when he really tries he can make others look good. That's literally about it.

He was doing well at rescuing himself from WWE's uncaring shitheap until Miz won the title back, called him a loser about 80 times, and then he just turned heel about 3 weeks later for no reason.
