It's surprising how the most consistently bad book, Monster Blood was the one that spawned a tonne of sequels. Likewise the Dummy books which, not Monster Blood levels of bad, still weren't great. I don't have his biography to hand, but iirc, Monster Blood was one of the top sellers by far across the entire range.

Solid ranking, and a couple of fun surprises in the top ten.

Surprised to see Basement at number 1. That's not one I enjoyed much. My Top 5.
1 - Horrorland: Mainly the setting. A dangerous theme park run by monsters is a great concept. 2- The Haunted School: I like it alot. Creepy, good mystery, nice twist. 3 - The Headless Ghost: The setting and backstory of Hill House is what makes this work. 4 - Camp Nightmare: Stine writes Camp books really well. The others are fun too. This is my highlight though. 5 - You Can't Scare Me: Genuinely funny. Some of Goosebump's best comedy.
Bottom 5
1 - Legend of the Lost Legend: Too random and stupid 2 - Monster Blood IV: Boring 3 - Snowman of Pasedena: Boring 4 Monster Blood III - Boring 5 - Monster Blood II - Boring
The worst thing a Goosebumps book can do is bore me. Chicken Chicken which most people hate, didn't bore me. I quite enjoyed it, it was something different.

Wonderful blog series, Retro, shame like all good things it has to come to an end. More enjoyable because you managed to get what made the books so enjoyable for their target audience, rather than wade in with the cynical adult eyes.
With the memory jogs then, my top 10 best and worst:
Best (in order of publication)
1. Welcome to dead house 2. The Ghost next door 3. Piano lessons can be murder 4. Scarecrow walks at midnight 5. A night in terror tower 6. Cuckoo clock of doom 7. How to kill a monster 8. Calling all creeps 9. How I learned to fly 10. Werewolf skin
Worst (in order of Publication)
1. Curse of the mummys tomb 2. Deep trouble 3. Monster blood iii 4. How I got my shrunken head 5. Bad hare day 6. Egg monsters from mars 7. Beast from the east 8. Say cheese and die again 9. Chicken chicken 10. Monter blood iv

The show did a better Monster Blood story than the books - the one on the plane. I enjoyed it, though it varied by episode. Also, because of the broadcast schedule, we wound up seeing some episodes here before the books were released! Attack of the Jack O' Lanterns, Vampire Breath and Calling all Creeps come to mind.
As only kid in class with access to the channel (Nickelodeon?) I'd tape it, and then our teacher would watch the episodes to judge if they were class friendly. Her name was Mrs Walker, and she used to joke their Phantom of the Auditorium episode "entirely miscast me!"

The Beast sounds like a really good book. The guards turning to skeletons as they head to the future is surprisingly hardcore creepy for a Stine book.

Really enjoyed these! Just curious: 1) have you thought of doing a ranking of all the cover arts? 2) have you played the Goosebumps video game?

I did play the PS3 version of the latest game (got platinum in it as well with a faq just to get it really done)(. I know there are two PC games and the Wii/PS2 game as well.

I cant find any argument against #1, even if it is a little obvious.

Definitely going to check out the Animorphs reviews. I loved that series as a kid, even if it did last a bit longer than it probably needed to.
