As an outsider I love each borough's definition of "the city" and what qualifies for who can call themselves a New Yorker or not. Heres my take on it , if your born in one of the five boroughs your a New Yorker for life .If you move to one of the 5 boroughs , and stay for 3 years - your a New Yorker

I've been out there a couple of times so I'm no New Yorker....
but what are some of the most "New York" things to do while visiting? Not looking for touristy stuff.
When I was out there to go to the One Night Stands we crammed in:
-riding the bull on Wall Street -buying a hot dog from a hot dog cart (then calling my folks about my "first Wall Street investment") -rode in a NY Taxi and lived -rode the Subway (we officially did "Downtown to Chinatown" [/Y2J] -walked through THE Macy's of thanksgiving parade fame (no cover charge?) -ate at a local place after midnight -drove the wrong way on a one-way street at 1am

In fact they've become pretty few and far between. The street feud of choice among New Yorkers are Halal Carts where you get the meat (usually chicken, sometimes lamb or beef) with the salad and rice and the white sauce poured on everything.

I had a beef skewer at another cart, but the Halal sounds amazing. When I get back out there I'll have to check it out.
